Help students see beyond their behaviour, build resilience and develop the strategies they need to succeed at school.
Responsibilities
As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you will work as part of our pastoral team to support students who may find managing their behaviour and the demands of school life challenging.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Supporting students to develop new strategies to manage school life and make positive choices.
- Providing 1:1 support to students, building positive relationships and helping them develop resilience.
- Running and supporting the Behaviour Hub, providing clear and consistent expectations for students.
- Supporting students completing reflection and pre-planned sanctions.
- Supporting students who have been removed from lessons and helping them reflect on their behaviour.
- Seeing beyond a student’s behaviour to understand the young person behind it and help them feel that they belong and can succeed.
- Responding calmly and appropriately to students experiencing a range of feelings and emotions.
- Working closely with colleagues across the pastoral team and under the direction of the Assistant Headteacher.
- Supporting the development of the school’s behaviour provision and contributing to a positive and supportive environment for all students.

Person Specification
Essential
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with young people.
- Ability to set clear expectations and provide consistent boundaries.
- Empathy and the ability to understand the young person behind the behaviour.
- Resilience and the ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Ability to support students to reflect on their behaviour and develop positive strategies for managing school life.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a pastoral team.
- A genuine commitment to supporting young people to feel they belong, succeed and achieve their potential.

Desirable
- Previous experience of working with young people in a school, education, pastoral or similar setting.
- Experience of supporting young people with behavioural, emotional or social needs.
- Experience of providing 1:1 mentoring or pastoral support.
- Knowledge or experience of SEMH and/or SEND.
- Experience of behaviour support, restorative approaches or helping young people develop strategies to manage challenging situations.
- Relevant training or qualifications in education, youth work, mentoring, behaviour support or a related area.
