Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse - Surgical Assessment Unit
We are excited to offer an opportunity for a band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse in the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) at the Royal Derby Hospital.
About the Role
SAU is a 24-bedded ward caring for inpatients with a 6-bedded assessment/triage area, for assessment of emergency patients from the emergency department, GP, and other sources. In addition, SAU staff work in the Surgical Same Day Emergency Care Department, currently located opposite the SAU. SAU care for patients on multiple General Surgical, Urology, and Vascular pathways. In addition, the role involves carrying the surgical bleep phone, overseeing the SAU and the surgical wards as a whole.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Ward Manager to provide effective and visible leadership.
- Drive the unit forward and ensure high standards of care are maintained.
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day ward environment.
- Ensure high standards of nursing care are provided.
- Promote patient safety and a positive patient experience.
- Drive forward both service development and quality improvement.
- Work closely with other teams such as bed manager and patient flow.

Requirements
- Hold a current NMC registration.
- Have demonstrable post-registration experience with band 5 experience within an emergency Surgical Nursing setting.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
- Be dynamic and strive for excellence in all aspects of the role.
- Act as a role model and maintain and uphold high standards of professional behaviour.
