Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated nurse to join our Emergency Nursing team at band 6. You will be part of a friendly and enthusiastic team providing the highest standards of care to our patients.
Emergency Nursing is a challenging and demanding speciality, but our multidisciplinary team will support you to develop and expand your Emergency Nursing skills.
Excellent opportunities for personal and professional development exist within the ED. Training will be provided in the ED, and through the completion of intermediate and advanced life support courses. You will be supported by the senior ED nurses to complete band 6 ED competencies.
Main duties of the job
- In consultation with the Ward Sister, agree the standards of care to be achieved within their area of control.
- Ensure that an acceptable standard of care is maintained for patients in his/her charge.
- To manage and participate as appropriate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care programmes for patients in his/her charge.
- In the absence of the Ward Sister, manage, deploy, and supervise staff allocated to his/her area and ensure that all nursing staff are aware of the extent of their remit in planning, prescribing, and evaluating nursing care.
- When deploying nursing staff and allocating clinical teams to specific patients or groups of patients, ensure that the competencies within that team are appropriate to the care required by the patient.
- To ensure that the care given is achieved in the most effective and efficient manner commensurate with sensitivity to patient needs.
- In consultation with the Ward Sister/Lead Nurse/Assistant Lead Nurse, identify when acceptable standards of care cannot be achieved due to a shortfall in expertise, manpower, or resources, and consult with the Ward Sister/Assistant Lead Nurse and/Lead Nurse regarding the resulting implications.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Nurse
- Adult/Paeds
- Diploma in Nursing/Willingness to undertake
Desirable criteria
- Degree in relevant clinical/professional subject
- Management Qualification
- Advance Life Support or willingness to undertake
- ATLS, TNCC, APLS, PLS
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post-registration experience, with sufficient current post-registration experience in A&E department or Critical Care setting
- Teaching experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience of undertaking audit work and standard setting
Skills
Essential criteria
- Advanced clinical skills
- Evidence of good organisational skills
- Effective problem solver
- Ability to negotiate and communicate with patients and all members of the Multidisciplinary Team
- IT skills, e.g., email, MS Word
Desirable criteria
- Ability to adapt to and propose changes within working situation
Knowledge
Essential Criteria
- Evidence of knowledge and application of consent, data protection, patient confidentiality, and risk management with Health and Safety Issues
