Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Urology Support Sister/Charge Nurse (Benign Disease) to join the Urology Service. Working under the direction of the Lead Benign Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist, the post holder will support the delivery of specialist care for patients with benign urological conditions.
The role will involve supporting the assessment, investigation and management of patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and providing specialist advice and support for patients experiencing continence-related conditions. Working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will promote high standards of patient-centred care and contribute to positive patient outcomes.
The successful candidate will support the development and delivery of nurse-led services and clinics, undertaking appropriate training and competency development where required. They will contribute to the implementation of evidence-based practice, clinical protocols and guidelines, supporting continuous service improvement within the benign urology pathway.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated registered nurse to develop specialist urology knowledge and skills whilst contributing to the ongoing delivery and development of a high-quality service.
Main duties of the job
- Investigating and managing patients with lower urinary tract symptoms
- Arranging diagnostic tests and follow up treatment
- Nurse led clinics
- Support of patients with continence difficulties
- Providing information and to be the point of contact for patients when appropriate
- Providing nursing support to the consultant team
- Assist and undertake audit projects as required
- Liaison with primary and secondary health teams
- Provide cross-cover to ensure a seamless delivery of patient care

Essential criteria
- Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
- Flexible attitude to working

- Catheterisation male and female
- EPIC trained
- Ability to work independently, equally as a team member
Desirable criteria
- Intermittent self-catheterisation skills
- Experience of running nurse-led clinics

- Administration of intravesical treatments
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 2 years experience at band 5
- Demonstrates good communication and presentation skills - verbal and written
- Excellent time management and organisation skills
- Male and female catheterisation
- Copes well with responsibility
- Multi-professional working
- Evidence of up-to-date standards of clinical practice
- Experience in Urological nursing
Desirable criteria
- Urodynamic experience
- Urology experience
- Previous experience as a band 6 position
