Site Agent

Location: Oxfordshire
Rate: £500-£550 per day (umbrella)
Contract: 6 months+ (major 2-3 year highways programme, strong extension likelihood)
Start: ASAP
Interview: ASAP
Client: Tier 1 Highways Contractor

Role Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Site Agent to support a major highways development in Oxfordshire. This is a long-term programme with substantial civils, roadworks, structures, drainage and utilities interfaces, offering stability and strong extension potential.

You will lead Site Engineers and Section Engineers, drive construction delivery, manage subcontractors, oversee planning and programme data, and ensure compliance with HSE, quality and specification requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Manage and mentor Site Engineers and Section Engineers
  • Support the Project Manager in driving construction delivery
  • Allocate and control project resources across work packages

Construction Delivery

  • Assist with planning the construction phase and sequencing
  • Compile and review work package plans and management plans
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, on programme and to specification
  • Support project delivery within budget and contractual requirements

Programme, Reporting & Commercial Interface

  • Work closely with planning teams to obtain accurate programme data
  • Monitor and report on contractual obligations
  • Liaise with commercial teams to ensure timely record preparation
  • Prepare daily activity briefings and maintain site diaries

Subcontractor & Supplier Management

  • Manage and monitor subcontractor performance and relationships
  • Ensure quality, environmental and HSE plans are implemented on site

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure full compliance with HSE and CDM requirements
  • Promote a strong safety culture across the site team
  • Attend weekly and monthly site meetings

Quality & Close-Out

  • Ensure works meet specification and quality standards
  • Assist with preparing project close-out documentation

Essential Experience

  • Strong background in civil engineering
  • Proven experience as a Site Agent or managing a section of a major civils site
  • Excellent knowledge of NEC
  • HNC or higher in Civil Engineering
  • Strong communication, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Experience supervising engineers and subcontractors
  • Understanding of current H&S / CDM legislation
  • SMSTS and First Aid at Work

Desirable Experience

  • Experience on highways schemes
  • CPCS Appointed Person for Lifting
  • Temporary Works Coordinator trained
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Strong long-term planning and programme awareness

Contract Details

  • Rate: £500-£550 per day (umbrella)
  • Duration: 6 months+ (project runs 2-3 years)
  • Start: ASAP
  • Interview: ASAP
  • Location: Oxfordshire
