We are delivering a first-of-a-kind, fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage, supporting the transition towards a decarbonised industrial future.
We are seeking a Site Engineer to support the delivery of civil engineering and construction works on a major infrastructure project based in Redcar and Cleveland.
The scope of work may include earthworks, drainage, underground services, ducting, reinforced concrete, roads and pavements, foundations, temporary works, utilities interfaces, and general site infrastructure.
Role Purpose
The Site Engineer will support the implementation of the project’s engineering strategy and provide day-to-day technical control across the allocated work area.
The position will involve setting out, surveying, technical coordination, permitting, quality assurance, progress reporting, and supporting the safe and accurate delivery of construction activities.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Support the senior project team in implementing the engineering strategy and delivery framework for the project.
- Carry out accurate setting out and surveying using GPS, total stations, levels, and other appropriate survey equipment.
- Establish, check, and maintain survey control within the allocated work area.
- Set out lines, levels, positions, offsets, falls, formation levels, and construction limits.
- Review drawings, specifications, schedules, survey information, and construction details before works commence.
- Identify drawing clashes, missing information, level conflicts, and constructability issues, raising technical queries where clarification is required.
- Support the planning and control of daily and upcoming construction activities.
- Ensure drawings, permits, RAMS, access arrangements, plant, labour, materials, and inspections are in place before work begins.
- Produce or support Permit to Dig and other relevant permit-controlled activities.
- Support the delivery of earthworks, excavation, drainage, underground utilities, ducting, concrete, backfilling, compaction, and reinstatement works.
- Verify that works are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, inspection and test plans, and project requirements.
- Manage or coordinate materials, plant, and labour within allocated budgets and resources.
- Maintain accurate setting-out records, survey checks, quality documentation, and progressive as-built information.
- Record progress, productivity, installed quantities, material usage, and site constraints.
- Assist with material take-offs, reconciliations, and records of installed quantities.
- Support inspection, testing, and quality assurance activities, ensuring that completed work meets the specified requirements.
- Contribute to project audits, engineering reviews, and regular delivery meetings.
- Work closely with supervisors, subcontractors, survey teams, temporary works, quality, planning, commercial, and engineering teams.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, consultants, designers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Consider site conditions, construction constraints, CDM Regulations, temporary works requirements, and client expectations when making engineering decisions.
- Produce accurate weekly and monthly progress and productivity reports.
- Support the use of BIM, digital setting-out tools, machine control, and other digital systems where required.
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge and promote best practice, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Raise safety, technical, quality, or constructability concerns before they affect delivery, programme, or cost.

Health, Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
- Support the preparation and implementation of RAMS, task briefings, and permits.
- Confirm that excavation, service avoidance, access, edge protection, lifting, plant movement, and temporary works controls are in place.
- Promote safe working practices and support the delivery of Zero Harm objectives.
- Report unsafe conditions, defects, near misses, and environmental concerns promptly.
- Maintain awareness of environmental controls relating to water, silt, spoil, waste, concrete washout, fuel, and contaminated materials.

Who We’re Looking For
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Site Engineer or within a similar civil engineering or construction delivery role.
- Experience supporting civil engineering works such as underground utilities, drainage, and earthworks.
- Competence in setting out and surveying using GPS, total stations, and levels.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, permits, and construction details.
- Understanding of RAMS, Permit to Dig systems, inspection and test plans, and quality documentation.
- Ability to produce accurate progress records, as-built information, and material reconciliations.
- Experience supporting construction delivery within infrastructure, energy, industrial, or another relevant sector.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and construction best practice.
- Strong attention to detail and the confidence to escalate technical, safety, or quality issues when required.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and work effectively under pressure.
- Customer-focused, flexible, and proactive approach.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant project systems.
- Valid CSCS card.
Desirable Requirements
- Degree, HNC, HND, ONC, or equivalent qualification in civil engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional qualification or progress towards membership of an appropriate professional body, such as ICE, CIOB, CIHT, or IStructE.
- Experience on major infrastructure, energy, industrial, process, highways, rail, aviation, water, or heavy civil engineering projects.
- Experience of reinforced concrete, roads, pavements, structures, foundations, temporary works, or site logistics.
- Understanding of BIM, 3D models, digital setting out, machine control, or model-based construction.
- Experience using digital quality, document control, survey, or progress-reporting systems.
- Awareness of commercial records, change management, and productivity reporting.
- Willingness to work weekends, nights, or adjusted shifts where project activities require it.
