Site Engineer

Location: Birmingham & Coventry
Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum, depending on experience
Contract: Permanent
Sector: Civil Engineering

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Site Engineer to join a well-established civil engineering contractor working on major infrastructure projects across the Birmingham and Coventry areas.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Site Engineer with experience in rail, track drainage or heavy civils to join a growing project team and play a key role in the successful delivery of drainage and associated civil engineering work.

You will be responsible for providing technical support on site, ensuring works are delivered safely, accurately and in accordance with drawings, specifications and programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support across track drainage and associated civil engineering works.
  • Carry out setting out and surveying duties using appropriate equipment.
  • Interpret and work from construction drawings, specifications and design information.
  • Ensure works are constructed to the required levels, lines, tolerances and specifications.
  • Assist with the delivery of track drainage, ducting, pipework, chambers and associated civils.
  • Carry out quality inspections and maintain accurate site records.
  • Complete site measurements, as-built information and relevant engineering documentation.
  • Liaise with Site Agents, Sub Agents, Foremen and subcontractors to ensure works are delivered effectively.
  • Monitor progress and identify any technical issues or discrepancies.
  • Assist with resolving engineering and construction queries on site.
  • Ensure all works are completed in accordance with relevant health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
  • Support the wider project team with planning and coordination of engineering activities.

About You

The successful candidate will have previous experience working as a Site Engineer within civil engineering or rail infrastructure, with specific experience in track drainage being highly desirable.

You should be technically competent, confident working independently on site and comfortable liaising with both site management and subcontractors.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Previous Site Engineering experience within civil engineering or rail.
  • Track drainage experience or strong drainage experience within a rail environment.
  • Experience with setting out and surveying.
  • Good understanding of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Experience working on major infrastructure or heavy civils projects.
  • Strong IT and reporting skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Relevant engineering qualification such as HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or similar.
  • Appropriate CSCS/engineering certification.
  • Rail experience and relevant rail competencies would be advantageous.
