Help Shape the UK’s Energy Future

Site Engineer Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C

As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the Marine and Tunnels Section.

What will you do?

  • Support the planning and execution of site mobilisation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and project requirements.
  • Liaise with project suppliers, subcontractors and stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
  • Monitor site progress and provide accurate records, reports and documentation.
  • Conduct inspections and quality checks to ensure works meet design and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist the Section Engineer in the production of lookahead programmes.
  • Identify risks and implement engineering solutions to maintain project delivery.
  • Coordinate the installation of temporary facilities, welfare units, utilities and site infrastructure.
  • Production & management of utility avoidance, including permit creation and onsite monitoring.

What are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Sound knowledge of construction and engineering principles associated with site establishment, temporary works and infrastructure delivery.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation, including CDM Regulations and safe systems of work.
  • Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure these are followed and implemented. Also has the ability to stop works if something appears unsafe or if anything changes.
  • Understanding of quality management requirements, inspection and test plans, and construction assurance processes.
  • Ability to work self-sufficient and identity key tasks for themselves to undertake.
  • Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours as required to achieve programme milestones.
  • Proficient IT Skills required for the role i.e Microsoft office, Auto CAD
  • Strong communication skills with interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Good standard of English for report writing
  • Excellent role model for the team and demonstrates required behaviours
  • Able to establish good working relationships with Sub-contractors, Workforce and Client.

Desirable:

  • Prior knowledge in nuclear, major infrastructure, or marine precast/fabrication projects.
  • Familiarity with SZC/HPC quality governance, Lift Plans, HSE procedure.
  • Understanding in piling, earthworks and enabling working.
  • Knowledge in Utility avoidance and buried services
  • Familiar with setting out using robotic total stations (i.e Lecia TS16)

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous Site Engineer experience on large civil engineering schemes.
  • CSCS card, SMSTS or equivalent safety qualification.
  • Holds UK Driving licence

Desirable:

  • Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor qualification.
  • EUSR Category 1 & 2
