Site Engineer (Structures and Highways)
Location: Saxmundham, Suffolk
Rate: GBP350 - GBP400 per day (CIS or LTD)
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: Long-Term Contract
Project Overview
We are seeking an experienced Site Engineer to oversee structural civil engineering works on a major link road development in Saxmundham, Suffolk. This is a secure, long-term contract package focusing on bridge structures, reinforced concrete (RC) retaining walls, culverts, and associated highway infrastructure.
You will be the lead technical engineer on site, driving accuracy, QA control, and daily setting out while interfacing between the project management team, design consultants, and groundworks sub-contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting Out and Controls: Provide precise setting out and engineering controls for all structural elements, including RC bridge foundations, abutments, wing walls, culverts, drainage networks, and highway tie-ins.
- Quality Assurance (QA): Establish, update, and manage Inspection Test Plans (ITPs). Perform strict pre-pour inspections (rebar, formwork, bolt alignments), monitor concrete pours, and maintain accurate pour logs/cube test records.
- As-Built and Surveying: Produce detailed As-Built surveys, 3D surface models, and volume calculations using modern survey equipment.
- Technical Interface: Read and interrogate structural drawings, rebar schedules, and CAD/BIM models. Raise clear Requests for Information (RFIs) to resolve design conflicts promptly.
- Site Management: Work closely with the Site Agent and Sub-Contractors to ensure production targets are met in line with safety and quality standards.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
