About The Role
Keeping the lights on? That's the easy part.
At Whitworths, we're proud of our heritage, excited by our future, and driven by the people who make it happen. As we continue to grow and invest in our manufacturing capability, we're looking for a Site Infrastructure Engineer to help keep our site operating safely, efficiently and reliably.
This is a hands-on role where you'll be responsible for the infrastructure that keeps our operation running—from utilities and site services to building systems and critical equipment. Working Monday to Friday on static day shifts, you'll troubleshoot, maintain, improve and help shape the future of our facilities.
What you'll be doing
- Maintaining and improving site utilities including compressed air, steam, electrical, gas and water systems.
- Delivering planned preventative maintenance and responding to breakdowns when needed.
- Supporting continuous improvement projects that reduce downtime and improve reliability.
- Working closely with colleagues and contractors to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Keeping accurate maintenance records and ensuring compliance with site standards.
What we're looking for
- Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
- Strong electrical fault-finding skills.
- Experience working with compressed air and steam generation systems.
- Knowledge of single and three-phase electrical systems.
- A practical problem-solver who enjoys getting to the root cause, not just fixing the symptom.
- Someone who takes ownership, communicates well and thrives in a team environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
