Job Description

Purpose of the Role

To manage the development of the location strategy to support the bank’s location decision-making process through both a business demand and real estate perspective.

Accountabilities

  • Data Analysis: Support the identification of opportunities to improve existing location footprints and improve real estate efficiency group-wide.
  • Program Management: Ensure compliance and delivery of timelines and budget for location strategy initiatives. Ensure outcomes meet agreed expectations regarding planning, design, construction, and occupancy.
  • Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships with senior executives, colleagues, vendors, and regulatory agencies to align the location strategy with the bank’s objectives and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders to improve the effectiveness and reliability of forward demand and strategy to support location strategy decision-making.
  • Business Partnering: Support the development and deployment of business-specific location strategies, providing MI, analytics, and strategic insight to key business stakeholders.

Director Expectations

  • Strategic Input: Manage a business function, providing significant input to function-wide strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function.
  • Project Management: Plan, manage, and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects, which may be business-wide.
  • Team Leadership: Manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other people managers, and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business. Or for an individual contributor, lead organization-wide projects and act as a deep technical expert and thought leader, identifying new ways of working and collaborating cross-functionally.
  • Expert Advice: Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Resourcing and Policy: Manage, coordinate, and enable resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Compliance and Governance: Escalate breaches of policies/procedures appropriately. Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes are in place to facilitate adherence.
  • External Influence: Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division/Group to achieve the overall business objectives. Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector/functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments/initiatives.
  • Problem Solving: Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/sensitive situations.
  • Decision Making: Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiation and Influence: Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Communication: Act as a principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/business divisions. Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for all corporate real estate and facilities services at the site.
  • Partner closely with senior business leaders, maintaining regular engagement and influencing key stakeholders across multiple business areas.
  • Oversee a large-scale Total Facilities Management (TFM) outsourced relationship, ensuring strong governance, service excellence, commercial performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive alignment between workplace services, site strategy, and wider organizational priorities.
  • Lead the successful delivery of construction, refurbishment, and workplace transformation projects.
  • Manage complex supplier and contractual relationships, ensuring service delivery, compliance, and value optimization.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for operational challenges, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management.

What We're Looking For

  • Significant leadership experience within Corporate Real Estate, Facilities Management, or Workplace Services environments.
  • Proven track record managing large outsourced service providers and complex TFM contracts.
  • Experience leading major construction, infrastructure, or workplace transformation projects.
  • Strong commercial acumen with an understanding of vendor governance, contract management, and performance oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and communicate effectively with senior executives and business leaders.
  • Experience managing large, multi-disciplinary teams across varying levels of seniority.
  • Strong conflict resolution and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of the Northampton market and local commercial environment would be advantageous.
