About the Role

Thorn Baker Construction are working with a well-established principal contractor specialising in the delivery of high-end residential construction projects. Known for exceptional craftsmanship and quality, the business delivers bespoke new-build homes, luxury refurbishments, heritage restorations, and complex residential developments for private clients. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Site Manager on a permanent basis to lead the successful delivery of premium residential projects.

Job Description

The successful candidate will take full responsibility for day-to-day site operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will work closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and senior management to drive project success from commencement through to handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all on-site construction activities from start to completion.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, labour, and site logistics.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in line with programme and budget requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
  • Monitor site progress and provide regular updates to senior management.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and technical information to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct site inspections and quality checks throughout the build process.
  • Organise and chair subcontractor and site coordination meetings.
  • Identify risks, resolve issues proactively, and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage site records, documentation, and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee snagging, commissioning, and project handovers.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, and project stakeholders.

Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Site Manager within the construction industry.
  • Experience delivering high-end residential, luxury housing, refurbishment, or heritage projects.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent organisational and communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple trades and subcontractors effectively.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and site operations.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • Experience working on listed buildings or heritage projects.
  • Knowledge of modern methods of construction.
  • Temporary Works awareness.
  • Scaffold Inspection qualification.
  • Construction-related qualification (NVQ, HNC/HND, Degree).
