We are recruiting for a Site Manager to join us here at Octavius.
We are a leading civil engineering organisation delivering safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions across the UK.
You'll join our team delivering a significant National Highways improvement scheme in Exeter, helping enhance one of the region's key strategic road networks. The project will involve coordinating multiple work activities, managing subcontract partners, and ensuring safe, efficient delivery for both our customer and the travelling public.
Your Role and Responsibility
As Site Manager, you will lead and manage all site activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, profitably, and to the highest standards of quality. You will be responsible for coordinating site operations, managing resources, and ensuring work is completed in line with programme requirements, customer expectations, and Octavius values.
Working closely with the Project Manager, delivery team, supply chain partners, and National Highways representatives, you will create a collaborative and high-performing site culture where safety is at the heart of everything we do.
Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Leading and managing day-to-day site operations to achieve programme, quality, commercial, and safety objectives.
- Driving a positive safety culture and ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Coordinating and supervising subcontractors, suppliers, and direct labour on site.
- Building strong working relationships with customers, stakeholders, and local communities.
- Managing project risks, opportunities, and site performance to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Monitoring progress, maintaining accurate records, and providing clear reporting to the project team.
- Supporting efficient project close-out, defect management, and handover activities.
- Promoting Octavius values and leading by example to develop an engaged, accountable, and collaborative site team.

About You… (what You Are Skilled At)
- Proven experience managing highway construction or civil engineering projects within a live infrastructure environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, develop, and manage site teams and supply chain partners.
- Excellent planning, organisation, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Good understanding of NEC contracts and their practical application.
- Experience managing project programmes, risk, quality, and commercial performance.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with customers, stakeholders, and local communities.
- Good knowledge of construction methodologies, specifications, and relevant industry standards.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and project reporting systems.

You'll Bring… (your Wealth Of Experience & Qualifications)
- Degree, HND, NVQ or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- SMSTS qualification.
- Temporary Works experience (desirable).
- First Aid qualification (desirable).
- National Highways project experience (desirable).
- Full UK Driving Licence (essential).
