Company Overview

A market-leading construction business is seeking a freelance Site Manager / Project Manager to join a significant yellow storage project in Epsom. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside an experienced Site Manager, with a primary focus on overseeing all site documentation and managing site health and safety.

Job Duties

  • Manage day-to-day site operations, ensuring all activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Oversee and maintain all site documentation, including site diaries, risk assessments, method statements, and progress reports.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and company policies, promoting a safe working environment for all personnel on site.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to maintain project timelines and quality standards.
  • Monitor site progress against the project programme and communicate updates to the project team.
  • Support the resolution of any on-site issues or delays, escalating where necessary.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to verify work quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Assist with resource planning and allocation to ensure effective utilisation of labour and materials.
  • Maintain clear communication channels between the site team and head office to ensure smooth project delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certification.
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
  • Valid First Aid certification.
  • Full, clean driving licence.

Education

A background in construction or a related discipline is essential. A recognised qualification in construction management or a related field is advantageous but not mandatory.

Experience

  • Proven experience working as a Site Manager or Project Manager within the construction industry.
  • Experience managing medium to large scale construction projects, ideally within the storage or industrial sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage site health and safety and compliance documentation effectively.
  • Experience liaising with multiple contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders on-site.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and best practises in construction.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in the use of site management and documentation software.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.

Working Conditions

  • The role requires full-time presence on site, with occasional flexibility for extended hours depending on project demands.
  • Work will be conducted outdoors and in varying weather conditions typical of the UK.
  • Personal protective equipment must be worn at all times on site.
  • Travel to and from the site in Epsom, Surrey, is required; a driving licence is essential.
