What You'll Be Doing

We're recruiting a Site Manager leading construction of 29 Town houses at our Hertford Locks development - Hertford Locks | New Build Homes Hertford | Berkeley.

  • Manage designated work packages and coordinate trades through the build sequence.
  • Apply your traditional build experience to identify construction interfaces, sequencing requirements and potential delivery risks.
  • Supervise and monitor contractors, labour and site activities.
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and agreed quality standards.
  • Check plans and technical information for accuracy and support the resolution of construction issues.
  • Monitor progress against the agreed build programme, key milestones and critical dates.
  • Maintain clear records of delays, inspections, quality checks and site activity.
  • Ensure Inspection and Test Plans, hold points, quality assurance and commissioning requirements are followed.
  • Inspect completed work and ensure defects are addressed promptly and to the required standard.
  • Liaise with the Project Manager and Commercial team regarding instructions, variations, contractor reporting and applications for payment.
  • Support and develop Assistant Site Managers working across your areas and packages.
  • Promote effective collaboration between contractors, consultants and the wider project team.

Health, Safety & Responsible delivery

Health and safety will be central to your approach. You will help ensure that contractors have the appropriate training, information and competency records, that site documentation is complete and that local and Group procedures are consistently followed. You will also support the timely investigation and close-out of incidents and liaise with the Temporary Works Coordinator where required.

This supports Berkeley’s commitment to safe, efficient and responsible delivery, alongside its wider aim to create high-quality homes and places with a lasting positive impact.

What You'll Bring

  • Demonstrable Site Manager experience on traditionally built residential developments.
  • Strong practical knowledge of traditional construction methods, build sequencing, trade interfaces and finishing standards.
  • Experience managing trade contractors and packages through multiple stages of the build.
  • A sound understanding of construction drawings, specifications, quality plans and inspection processes.
  • The ability to monitor programme performance and escalate risks or delays clearly.
  • A consistent focus on safety, build quality and delivering work right first time.
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Experience supporting or developing Assistant Site Managers or junior team members.
  • A construction or engineering degree, HNC, Level 6 NVQ or a strong relevant trade background.
  • A Management or Professionally Qualified Person CSCS card, SMSTS and First Aid qualification.
  • Relevant industry-recognised training.
