Site Reliability Engineer
Gloucester or Manchester | Hybrid | £40,000 - £65,000
We’re working with a leading technology and engineering organisation supporting complex National Security programmes.
They’re looking for Site Reliability Engineers to join a growing team focused on building and maintaining highly available, resilient and secure services.
This is a hands-on SRE role where you’ll use software engineering, automation and cloud technologies to reduce manual operational work, improve system reliability and help engineering teams build more resilient platforms.
Candidates must be eligible for DV clearance.
Who you’ll be working with
You’ll join a growing SRE/DevOps community working alongside software and product engineering teams on systems supporting critical mission applications.
The focus is on automation over manual operations, with SREs encouraged to identify recurring problems, engineer solutions and continuously improve the reliability and performance of the services they support.
What you’ll be doing
- Support and maintain critical services, improving their availability, performance and stability
- Automate repetitive operational tasks and reduce manual intervention
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex application and infrastructure issues
- Work across different levels of the technology stack to identify root causes
- Build and improve monitoring, logging and observability
- Use system metrics and monitoring data to identify and demonstrate improvements
- Work with development teams to promote reliability, scalability and resilience best practices
- Support cloud-based infrastructure and microservices environments
- Contribute to the wider DevOps/SRE engineering community
- Stay hands-on with emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve existing platforms

What we need
We’re looking for engineers with a strong background in SRE, DevOps, software engineering or cloud infrastructure.
You’ll ideally have experience with:
- Software development, particularly Java and web technologies
- Linux and Windows environments, including Bash and PowerShell
- Cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure or OpenStack
- Monitoring and observability platforms, particularly ELK/Elastic
- Containers and microservices, including Docker
- Diagnosing and resolving application/service outages
- Troubleshooting across application, infrastructure and network layers
- Automation and configuration management tools such as Chef or Puppet
- Database technologies such as MongoDB or Elastic
- Agile/Scrum environments and tools such as Jira
- Automation testing frameworks such as Selenium
- ITIL principles and terminology
