About The Role
Professional Services was formed as a progressive development towards the convergence of multiple domains across BT. We pride ourselves on providing expert third line support to an extensive range of services; ensuring required levels of availability are maintained. The team is widely recognised for getting things done, while making transformational improvements along the way.
This is a blended Network Operations and Site Reliability Engineering role within Professional Services, combining hands-on network engineering with SRE principles to ensure the reliability of BT's fixed network infrastructure.
You will implement flawless network change, resolve network and platform issues, and drive automation to improve reliability and efficiency — developing your skills across network operations and SRE disciplines to deliver brilliant customer experience.
You will build effective working relationships internally and externally and contribute as a technically talented network and reliability expert, challenging those around you to perform at their best.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supports the delivery of routine daily activities and is accountable for system design, build, testing, validation, maintenance, monitoring and ongoing support of all network infrastructure components.
- Participate and be the technical lead on network incidents and platform issues within immediate domain and be part of PIR write up and solution.
- Propose and implement innovations for continuous improvement in network reliability and operational efficiency, including automating repetitive operational tasks to reduce toil.
- Executing the implementation of complex network and infrastructure change in line with change management best practices and the associated governance.
- Providing 365x24/7 operational support for network faults and platform issues that span a range of network and platform domains i.e. out of hours change and callout.
- Managing stakeholder and demand expectations through cross area engagement.
- Developing technical capability through continued learning and use of BT's learning tools.
- Will champion and build effective working relationships, both internally and externally to deliver business outcomes, adding value throughout.
- Responsible for delivering the change execution, network operations support, and assurance of Fixed Network platforms managed by Professional Services.

Essential Skills / Experience
- Strong hands-on experience in at least one of the following areas: IP networking, switching and routing, or firewall technologies, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex live network issues. Experience with Juniper, Cisco, and Palo Alto solutions is advantageous.
- Proven experience in incident and change management, driving issues through to resolution while adhering to governance processes and maintaining a strong focus on end-to-end customer service outcomes.
- Passion for technology and continuous learning, with experience adopting new technologies, supporting the development of others, and a working knowledge of scripting or programming languages such as Python.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Network Automation: Demonstrable experience using automation tools (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, Netconf/YANG) to manage network infrastructure at scale and reduce operational toil.
- Familiarity with CI/CD orchestration.
- Cloud Computing: Familiarisation with cloud computing and best practices.
- Experience with Linux /Unix system administration.
- Experience in completing changes in a live network and system environment.
- Experience working in a high-pressure operational environment.
- Confident and professional in communicating with all stakeholders, including Senior Leadership Team.
- Awareness of automation principles and their application to network operations.
- Experience advocating and applying technology or automation where it has not been used previously.
- Experience learning new technologies and aiding the development of others.
