Amentum Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) Job Description

Amentum, a global leader in critical mission support, engineering, technology, and national security solutions, is seeking a Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) to support a government contract on the island of Diego Garcia.

The SSHO is responsible for preparing and enforcing the Contractor’s Safety program and USG accepted Accident Program on this contract. (Note the SSHO shall have fulfilled the following prerequisite training and experiences before being hired as the SSHO under this contract.)

  • The SSHO must meet the requirements of EM 385-1-1 Section 1 and ensure that the requirements of 29 CFR 1926.16 are met for the project.
  • Provide a Safety oversight team that includes a minimum of one competent person at each project site to function as the SSHO.
  • Perform other duties as assigned all while ensuring successful performance and compliance with Performance Work Statement (PWS), Program, USG, and international requirements and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with standard management practices including but not limited to monitoring, records keeping, report preparation, training, inspections, data reporting, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in an associated discipline preferred; two (2) years of experience in related field may be substituted for each year of the four (4) years of college.
  • The SSHO shall have completed five years of satisfactory experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity in the past or three years’ experience if candidate possesses a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or safety and health degree.
  • As required by EM 385-1- 1 paragraph 01.A.17, entitled SITE SAFETY AND HEALTH OFFICER (SSHO), and all associated sub-paragraphs.
  • Completed the OSHA 30-hour construction safety class or equivalent within the last 5 years and an average of at least 24 hours of safety training per year for the past 5 years.
  • Five years of satisfactory experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity in the past.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP). Certified for lead abatement, asbestos abatement, confined space entry, and respiratory protection highly preferred.
  • Trained and qualified to conduct Mishap Investigations per OPNAV 5100.23 series.
  • Maintain competency IAW EM385-1-1 requirements.
  • Experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
  • Must be familiar with current global, US, Program, and PWS requirements.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a passport and driver's license throughout employment in this role.
  • Ability to successfully pass PACOM medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.

WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Able to stand for long periods of time such as eight (8) to ten (10) hours, bend, kneel, and reach to store/retrieve supplies.
  • Able to lift, carry, and push supplies and boxes up to 50 pounds.
  • Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.
  • May work in a typical office environment.
