Site Setting Out Engineer – Yorkshire
£45,000 – £55,000 + Package
Are you an experienced Site Engineer or Setting Out Engineer with a strong background in residential construction?
We are working with a leading housebuilder that is looking to strengthen its Technical team with an experienced Site Setting Out Engineer. The role will involve working across multiple residential developments throughout Yorkshire, providing technical support to site teams and ensuring developments are delivered accurately, efficiently and to the required standards.
This is a hands-on technical position, with responsibility for setting out, surveying and supporting the delivery of foundations, drainage, roads, retaining walls, brickwork, earthworks and associated infrastructure.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Setting out, levelling and surveying residential construction sites, including foundations, drainage, roads, brickwork, retaining walls, fence lines and associated infrastructure.
- Using robotic total stations, EDM equipment and GPS/GNSS to accurately establish site positions, levels and coordinates.
- Carrying out topographical surveys and producing accurate site information, as-built surveys, overlays and comparison reports against original designs.
- Producing earthworks models and isopachyte drawings, including cut and fill information.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and quantities to identify discrepancies before and during construction.
- Providing technical advice and support to Site Managers, subcontractors, trades and wider site teams.
- Identifying technical issues and providing practical solutions to keep works progressing efficiently.
- Liaising with consultants, architects, engineers, planners, quantity surveyors and other project stakeholders.
- Supporting quality control and ensuring works are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and relevant standards.
- Preparing technical and site reports and maintaining accurate project records.
- Managing your own workload across multiple developments and meeting agreed deadlines.
- Supporting health and safety requirements and maintaining high standards across all site activities.

Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working as a Site Engineer or Setting Out Engineer within residential construction or housebuilding.
- A relevant Engineering qualification, such as Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or an equivalent discipline, alongside a current CSCS card.
- Strong practical experience in setting out and surveying construction works, including experience with robotic total stations, EDM equipment and GPS/GNSS.
- Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and LSS or similar modelling software.
- Experience producing topographical surveys, as-built information, earthworks models and associated drawings.
- Strong understanding of drawings, specifications, levels and site conditions, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify discrepancies and technical issues.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to provide technical guidance to site teams, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
- A practical, proactive and solution-focused approach, with strong organisational and time management skills.

- £45,000 – £55,000 salary, depending on experience.

About You
We're looking for someone who is technically strong, organised and comfortable working in a fast-paced residential environment.
You should be confident working independently on site while also being able to build strong relationships with Site Managers, subcontractors, consultants and the wider Technical team.
