We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Site Supervisor to join our growing Wales team, supporting the delivery of a portfolio of rail and civil engineering projects across long-term framework agreements and capital delivery schemes.
A key focus of this role will be supporting the delivery of major footbridge improvement works across North Wales, including the Sandy Lane and Pen Uchaf footbridge widening schemes. These projects form part of Network Rail and Transport for Wales' active travel and accessibility investment programme, delivering DDA-compliant infrastructure that improves connectivity for local communities.
About The Business Unit
Our Wales business unit delivers a diverse range of civil engineering and rail infrastructure projects throughout the region. Working across both framework and tendered contracts, we provide multidisciplinary solutions for clients including Network Rail, Transport for Wales, Local Authorities and the Environment Agency.
Current programmes include CP7 rail infrastructure works, structural renewals, station enhancements, access-for-all schemes, bridge refurbishments and replacements, environmental projects and major footbridge upgrades. The team is currently mobilising significant works across North Wales, with the Sandy Lane and Pen Uchaf schemes representing high-profile projects within our expanding regional portfolio.
The Role
Reporting to the Site Manager, Site Agent or Project Manager, you will play a key role in the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of rail and civil engineering works.
The successful candidate will provide day-to-day site leadership, coordinating operatives, plant and subcontractors while ensuring activities are delivered safely, to programme, and to the required quality standards. The role will involve both weekday and possession-based working, including weekends and nights where required to support rail operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the safe delivery of site activities and promote a strong behavioural safety culture.
- Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all personnel and stakeholders affected by site operations.
- Deliver high-quality Task Briefings, Risk Assessments, Method Statements and site briefings.
- Monitor and manage work activities in accordance with approved Works Package Plans, Task Briefing Sheets and safe systems of work.
- Coordinate and supervise direct labour, subcontractors, plant and equipment resources.
- Conduct pre-work and post-work checks, ensuring permits and authorisations are in place.
- Promote Close Call reporting and utilise behavioural safety tools including At Risk/Reduced Risk reporting and Behavioural Incident Analysis.
- Ensure works are delivered right first time and in accordance with contract specifications and quality requirements.
- Maintain accurate site records including diaries, attendance records, progress updates and workforce allocations.
- Monitor site progress against programme and escalate issues where necessary.
- Ensure site welfare, housekeeping, segregation and security arrangements are maintained to the required standards.
- Undertake inspections of plant, equipment, tools and vehicles to ensure compliance and safe operation.
- Support planning activities and contribute to efficient resource utilisation.
- Ensure all relevant company procedures, business management system requirements and client standards are followed.
- Provide leadership, coaching and support to site teams, promoting teamwork and continuous improvement.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience supervising rail or civil engineering projects and be confident leading teams in a safety-critical environment.
You will be an effective communicator with strong organisational skills and a practical understanding of rail infrastructure delivery, quality requirements and safe systems of work.
Essential Qualifications & Competencies
- PTS (Personal Track Safety)
- SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme)
- First Aid Qualification
- Full UK Driving Licence
Knowledge & Experience
- Experience within a rail infrastructure, civils or structures environment.
- Previous experience in a Supervisor role.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical documentation.
- Sound understanding of SHEQ principles and safe systems of work.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and direct labour.
- Working knowledge of permits, temporary works and site control procedures.
- Understanding of site reporting, progress monitoring and record keeping.
- IT literacy including Microsoft Office and digital site management systems.
- Knowledge of CAT & Genny and utility avoidance practices.
- Strong leadership, communication and team management skills.
