Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations – Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Wick. The role is located at the Banniskirk Hub in Caithness, accommodation can be provided if required during working periods.
Salary: £36,200 - £54,400 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | On site presence required 5 days a week with the potential of a rotational working pattern.
The role
SSEN Transmission has an opportunity for a Site Supervisor experienced in the principles of construction and commissioning of major transmission overhead line works, substations, and/or underground cables, ensuring strict adherence to the highest health, safety, environmental and quality standards, to join the delivery team on the Banniskirk 400kV and Spittal Substation extension projects.
You will
- Represent the SSEN Transmission business on-site as a key site-based point of contact, ensuring the suppliers carry out works in accordance with contractual requirements and SSEN policies and procedures. A key element of this will be measuring completed works against the works information for payment purposes and management of compensation events.
- Ensure the project is executed in accordance with relevant requirements, particularly relating to statutory and legal obligations, health and safety, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, quality & technical compliance, personnel and industrial relations.
- Work closely with the appointed contractor(s) and the operations team to ensure the works are delivered to the project programme, in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
- Act as a leader on site and champion for a positive safety culture. Ensuring site activities comply with planning consents and SHE legislation, and routine reports and KPIs are submitted to the Project Manager.
- Be a consistent and supportive presence on site, working with colleagues, contractors and community partners to ensure the project progresses smoothly

You have
- A solid engineering and construction knowledge including the safety and CDM regulations and a desire to apply them in a considerate and practical way.
- Experience in site supervision or construction at duty holder level of similarly complex works in construction or utilities. Experience in construction access works would also be beneficial.
- An understanding of project planning and in particular tracking progress against agreed plans along with working knowledge of quality requirements and experience in monitoring inspection and test plans.
- Confidence working with project plans, monitoring progress and quality, and helping teams stay aligned with agreed goals and inspection standards.
- Computer literate or familiarity with computer systems and ideally with the ability to use common software such as Microsoft Office packages.
- Good written and oral communication skills, including the capability of representing the project internally and externally.
Please note, a full current driving licence is essential due to the requirement to travel to and be on site.
