Engineering (Delivery) Industrial Placement

The Sizewell C MEH Alliance is a project partnership responsible for the Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC (MEH) works on the Sizewell C nuclear power station, including the installation of piping, electrical systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems across the nuclear and conventional areas of the power station. The Sizewell C MEH Alliance is responsible for delivering the bulk of piping, HVAC and Electrical (Phase 1) as well as to perform the installation of equipment on Site (Phase 2).
We are currently in Phase 1 of the project which involves the design, procurement and delivery of mechanical, electrical and HVAC items on site. Delivery and Integration branch is responsible of preparing for Phase 2; this entails planning for construction, logistics and end to end schedule.
You will work on one of the most exciting and significant sustainable energy projects that our country has ever seen, being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Sizewell C is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for at least 60 years.
We’re recruiting for an Engineering (Delivery) Industrial Placement in our Bristol office, business trips to EU and UK may take place during the placement.
What we’re looking for:
- Discipline in Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Design Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Project Management
- Willingness to learn and develop in project management, nuclear industry, leadership and engineering disciplines
- Good presentation, influencing and facilitation skills. Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- An interest in working in major nuclear and infrastructure programmes.
- Open minded, flexible and have an agile way of thinking to succeed in a dynamic fast paced project environment.
- Having a strategic mindset that brings innovative ideas.
- Effective interpersonal skills, high ethical behaviour, integrity, humility, and character.
- Effective communication skills to manage your stakeholders whilst prioritising competing demands.

Over the course of this 12-month programme, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in hands-on learning, working on real-world challenges that directly impact the energy industry. Most of your learning will be on the job, supported by your mentor and the teams around you. You’ll have a chance to apply your academic training to genuine industry problems while completing modules that contribute towards your degree.
As an Industrial Placement student at Sizewell C, you will support the preparation of construction and develop full sequence from procurement to installation.
Your tasks will include:
- Reviewing the sequence of Site activities per building (civil works, temporary works, installation, commissioning) aiming to define the conditions and timescales for the installation phase.
- Working with various disciplines (piping, electrical, HVAC) to capture their sequence for engineering and procurement. Map out the maturity of the inputs (e.g. design, supply chain) and identify the related critical activities for the engineering, procurement, delivery sequence (Phase 1).
- Based on site erection sequence and disciplines timescales, develop and recommend strategy to align procurement with site need dates for installation. Once strategy is adopted, liaise with the various disciplines for implementation and to procure material accordingly.
- Conducting research and assessing data from Hinkley Point C and other similar projects to refine duration for different site installation activities. Working with the planning team and relevant SME to develop the site installation schedule for MEH scope of work
- Anticipating, managing and resolving issues throughout the development of the sequence. Identify risks and facilitate the resolution of all issues raised, develop and update the plan, and escalate any issues to the Head of Integration
