Mechanical Engineering Industrial Placement
If you are looking to kick start a career that is rewarding, where you can really make a difference, then come join our CI-BOP team as a Mechanical Engineering Industrial placement. You will work on one of the most exciting and significant sustainable energy projects that our country has ever seen, being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Sizewell C is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for at least 60 years.
We’re recruiting for students to join our Mechanical Industrial Placement programme at our Bristol office.
Taking on a real job at a junior level, you'll have the opportunity to learn through hands-on experience under the guidance of highly skilled and experienced colleagues.
As a Mechanical Engineering Industrial Placement student, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, develop your technical and commercial understanding, and see how engineering decisions are made and delivered on a major project.
What you’ll be doing:
Your placement could give you exposure to a broad range of mechanical engineering activities. Depending on your team and the stage of the project, you could be involved in:
- Supporting mechanical engineers with the development, review, and delivery of engineering solutions.
- Building your understanding of mechanical systems, equipment, and components used within a major infrastructure project.
- Reviewing technical information, drawings, calculations, and specifications.
- Supporting engineering assurance and helping ensure work meets appropriate quality and safety requirements.
- Working with colleagues across engineering, construction, project management, supply chain, and other technical disciplines.
- Supporting the resolution of technical queries and engineering challenges.
- Attending technical meetings and contributing ideas as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Who we're looking for:
We’re looking for curious, motivated students who enjoy solving problems and want to understand how engineering works beyond the classroom.
Over the course of this 12-month programme, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in hands-on learning, working on real-world challenges that directly impact the Nuclear Industry. Most of your learning will be on the job, supported by your mentor and the teams around you. You’ll have a chance to apply your academic training to genuine industry problems while completing modules that contribute towards your degree.
You’ll ideally be:
- Studying towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Interested in applying engineering principles to real-world challenges.
- A logical thinker with an analytical approach to problem solving.
- Comfortable working collaboratively and building relationships with different people.
- Able to communicate technical information clearly.
- Keen to learn, ask questions, and take responsibility for your development.
- Passionate about developing a career in engineering and major infrastructure.

Security Vetting
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting.
