Hadleigh Castings Ltd is a UK aluminium foundry specialising in precision sand casting, boxless moulding, CNC machining, inspection, and fully finished aluminium cast components. The company supports engineering buyers and design teams with technically demanding and complex castings, including challenging geometries and a wide range of sizes. Hadleigh Castings offers rapid prototyping and fast turnaround projects using advanced 3D printed moulds and cores. Its in-house technical services span CAD/CAM, pattern making, mould fill simulation, reverse engineering, extensive inspection, and a variety of testing and finishing processes. The company supplies aluminium castings to sectors such as aerospace, automotive, rail, marine, defence, life sciences, communications, environmental, and test & measurement, partnering with clients from prototype through to production.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for Skilled Foundry Moulders, Tuckers, and Core Makers located in Hadleigh on the outskirts of Ipswich. The role involves preparing and assembling moulds and cores for aluminium precision sand casting, including boxless moulding and complex core arrangements. Daily tasks include reading and interpreting technical drawings and work instructions, preparing moulding materials, setting up moulding boxes and tooling, and ensuring accurate placement of cores to achieve required geometries and tolerances. Team members will work closely with pattern makers, machine operators, and inspection staff to maintain quality standards, support rapid prototyping and production runs, and meet safety, housekeeping, and process control requirements. The role may also involve contributing to continuous improvement activities, assisting with troubleshooting casting issues, and supporting efficient workflow in the foundry.

Qualifications

- Strong practical skills in foundry moulding, core making, and tucking, ideally within aluminium precision sand casting environments.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, patterns, and technical specifications, with attention to detail and dimensional accuracy an advantage.
- Experience working with sand moulding, core assemblies, and thin wall sections in moulds and cores.
- Knowledge of foundry materials, moulding sands, binders, and basic metallurgy relevant to aluminium casting.
- Commitment to safe working practices, good housekeeping, and adherence to quality procedures and inspection requirements.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with pattern makers, machine operators, and inspectors.
- Previous experience in a sand casting foundry or similar heavy manufacturing environment; apprenticeship or vocational training in foundry work is an advantage.
- Willingness to learn and contribute to continuous improvement, including adoption of new tools, technologies, and processes.
