Skilled Vehicle and Plant Technician

The successful candidate will be a qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle mechanic who has experience in all the major elements of goods vehicle repair’s including engines, transmission, braking systems and suspension including a basic knowledge of vehicle electrics. Experience of Goods Vehicle MOT preparation is desirable. Must have the ability to work on a wide variety of vehicles and plant including HGV's, LGV's and Agricultural machines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Undertake the full range of repair, maintenance and servicing to external customers vehicles in accordance with Council policies and procedures, legislative requirements, manufacturers standards
• To prepare Large Goods Vehicles and Light Vehicles to the standard required to pass the statutory MOT/LGV Test
• To carry out MOT testing on class 4, 5 and 7 vehicles and suitability testing on Hackney Carriages and Private Hire Taxis
• Improve and maintain high standards of housekeeping within the workshop facility
• Responsibility for ensuring the safety and roadworthiness of the Council's operational fleet of vehicles, plant, trailers and equipment

About You:

• Be a time served technician with significant experience or hold an appropriate NVQ Level3 qualification
• Willing to work towards qualifying as DVSA recognised MOT tester for class's 4, 5 and 7
• Thorough knowledge of M.O.T. Testing, standards and procedures
• Thorough knowledge of Large Goods Vehicle maintenance and repair
• Understanding of relevant road traffic acts and statutory requirements relating to vehicles and plant standards as prescribed by DVSA, DVLA, DOT and HSE
• Hold a valid LGV category C Driving Licence and ideally category C+E Driving Licence
