About The College
Northumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently building a multi-million, state of the art, new college campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026. The successful candidate will be based at the new college where a purpose-built construction, housing, advanced manufacturing and engineering centre will be located.
Curriculum spans technical, vocational further and higher education and includes large apprenticeship provision and dedicated centres for young people with SEND.
The College has two main campuses in Ashington, and Ponteland, and as part of the college group Education Partnership Northeast, it also has a significant number of satellite delivery centres across the region
Served by easy road links, and the new train station in Ashington, when Northumberland College opens its new Department for Education backed campus at Wansbeck Business Park, the college will boast a national trailblazer both in architectural design and operation. This major £52 million+ investment comes on top of the College recently driving £14million into new facilities and resources at its existing sites.

Taking Teaching Further & Additional Incentives
If you’re making the move into further education teaching, you may be eligible for the Taking Teaching Further (TTF) programme a funded route to help industry professionals retrain as FE teachers.
In addition, for roles in high-need subjects or regions you may also benefit from the government’s targeted retention incentive (formerly “levelling-up premium”) payments, worth up to £6,000 for eligible teachers in their first five years and teaching certain shortage subjects.

About The Candidate
Are you passionate about empowering young people to thrive as they transition into through college? We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate progress and development tutor to join our supportive Animal Management team at Bede Campus. As a changemaker in this role you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of our students.
Within this land based subject, we are dedicated to providing high-quality education and training and you will play a crucial part in supporting our students’ progress and personal development, enabling them to achieve their full potential.

About The Role
As a key part of the role, you will provide assertive and proactive personal support to students, helping to ensure high levels of attendance, punctuality, retention, and academic progress—particularly in core areas such as English and maths. You'll work closely with teaching teams, support staff, parents, and students themselves to create a supportive environment where every learner can flourish and achieve their personal goals. With responsibility for a specific caseload, you will coach students individually and in groups, setting meaningful targets, implementing timely interventions, and using tools such as eILP (ProMonitor) to track and monitor progress. A core focus will be on identifying and supporting “At Risk” students and closing achievement gaps, actively contributing to positive progression into further education, training, or employment.
Role Responsibilities
- Planning and delivery of engaging sessions focused on the preparation for adulthood framework
- Offering 1-2-1 and group-based pastoral support tailored to individual needs and to support attendance, punctuality and progress of student in all elements of their study programme
- Work collaboratively with programme leaders, EHCP coordinators, families and external agencies to maintain attendance, retention, achievement and progression
- Implement strategies to build confidence and self-esteem to develop a growth mindset model
- Monitoring learner progress, drawing up agreed action plans to support and contribute to review documentation

Qualifications
- GCSE maths grade 4 or above
- GCSE English grade 4 or above
- Level 3 qualification in a land-based related subject
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience of working with young people and adults
- Excellent communication and presentation skills both written and verbal and to a wide range of audiences
- Suitability to work with children
- Excellent organisational skills
Desirable Skills & Experience – (Optional)
- Knowledge of land-based industry
- Previous experience of working in an FE setting
