Cordless Consultants is growing its Smart Buildings capability, and we’re looking for someone with curiosity, technical aptitude and the potential to become an excellent consultant.
You might be a graduate or already working in building technology, engineering, IT, data, controls, building services, PropTech or workplace technology. You don’t need previous Smart Buildings consultancy experience. What matters is your ability to learn, solve problems, communicate clearly and take a genuine interest in how buildings, people and technology connect.

Cordless is an independent technology consultancy working at the intersection of buildings, people and digital experience.
For more than 30 years, we’ve helped some of the world’s most ambitious organisations understand, design and deliver technology for the built environment. Our projects bring Smart, IT, AV, Security, data and building systems together - creating places that are easier to use, more responsive, more sustainable and better informed.
Our work can involve occupancy and utilisation, indoor environmental quality, energy performance, workplace applications, automation, analytics and the integration of systems across an entire building. Because we’re independent of manufacturers and platforms, we focus on understanding what clients need to achieve and finding the right answer for each project.
THE OPPORTUNITY
You’ll join a supportive multidisciplinary consultancy and learn by contributing to real projects alongside experienced colleagues.
Initially, you’ll assist with research, analysis, workshops, technical design and project documentation. As your knowledge and confidence develop, you’ll progressively take ownership of defined areas of work and build the skills needed to manage projects and advise clients.

You’ll receive structured day-to-day support from senior team members, while gaining exposure to specialists across IT, AV, Security, BIM and project delivery. It’s a broad foundation for someone who wants to build a long-term career in Smart Buildings and technology consultancy.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Research Smart Building technologies, platforms, standards and emerging market developments.
- Help consultants understand client, user and operational requirements.
- Support the preparation of Smart strategies, reports, briefs, designs and specifications.
- Assist with integration architecture, system schedules and coordinated project documentation.
- Explore how building data can improve experience, utilisation, wellbeing, sustainability and operational performance.
- Coordinate with colleagues across Smart, IT, AV, Security and delivery.
- Work with architects, engineers, contractors, integrators and other project partners.
- Attend workshops, design meetings and site visits.
- Support procurement, technical reviews, testing, commissioning and handover.
- Take increasing responsibility as your technical and consultancy skills develop.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
You’ll need:
- A genuine interest in Smart Buildings, technology and the built environment.
- The ability to understand technical ideas and explain them clearly.
- Curiosity, initiative and a willingness to ask thoughtful questions.
- Good research, analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Care and attention when producing documents and working with technical information.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to learn from different disciplines.
- The organisation and reliability needed to contribute to client projects.

A relevant degree, apprenticeship or technical qualification may be helpful, but it is not the only route into the role. We’re open to candidates from adjacent industries and to people whose experience demonstrates the right capability and potential.
You won’t be expected to arrive knowing everything. We are looking for someone who can learn quickly, respond well to feedback and develop into a confident consultant.
HOW WE WORK
We work flexibly, combining time at home with time spent learning and collaborating with colleagues in our London office and attending client meetings and project sites. Some travel will form part of the role.
