Role Title: Smart Labs Digital Innovation & Industrialization Lead

Job Description:
Blended Business & Tech Scope:
Own the delivery, validation, industrialisation, and enterprise scale-out of Smart Lab digital transformation initiatives, ensuring pilots become sustainable business capabilities with clear value, global repeatability, and embedded operational ownership.
Role Purpose
This is a key role within Client's Smart Lab Transformation Programme, responsible for identifying, shaping, validating, and industrialising digital transformation initiatives that enable more connected, automated, and insight-driven Quality Control laboratories.
The role will lead digital innovation from early concept through to proof of concept, proof of value, pilot execution, and enterprise scale-out. It will ensure that digital solutions are not only technically viable but operationally relevant, value-led, repeatable, and suitable for adoption across the wider laboratory network.
Working at the intersection of business, technology, data engineering, product ownership, and delivery management, the role will act as the bridge between laboratory operations, engineering, manufacturing, technology, data, and site teams. The primary objective is to ensure that Smart Lab digital initiatives progress from POC → value demonstration → pilot → industrialisation → enterprise adoption → ownership transfer, creating sustainable business capability rather than isolated local pilots.
Strategic Accountability
The role is accountable for turning Smart Lab digital innovation into scalable enterprise capability. This includes establishing the mechanisms, governance, standards, deployment models, and ownership pathways required to move successful solutions from experimentation into embedded ways of working across the laboratory network.

The role will help define what “good” looks like for digital transformation in QC labs, supporting the development of Client’s longer-term Smart Lab digital roadmap while delivering near-term, high-value proof points.

Lead the validation and scale-up of strategic digital and operational capabilities that enhance laboratory performance, connectivity, visibility, and decision-making.

Capabilities and Experience
- Proven experience leading digital and data transformation within life sciences, consumer health, pharmaceutical, laboratory, or manufacturing environments.
- Able to translate business needs into digital use cases and scalable products, acting as the link between business and technology stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of data concepts, governance, standards, and functional data modelling, with familiarity across laboratory and manufacturing systems such as LIMS, ELN, ERP/SAP, MES/Pas-X, and related digital platforms.
- Strong understanding of laboratory informatics (e.g., ELN, LIMS, CDS), automation, and smart lab technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Experience or familiarity with emerging technologies such as AI, predictive analytics, RFID, Unified Namespace, and other digital transformation capabilities is important.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies, design thinking, and user-centred design.
- Strong leadership, influencing, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across senior leaders, technical teams, and operational teams to accelerate new ways of working in labs and supply chain.

Preferred Background
- A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, or Pharmaceutical Sciences is preferred.
- Advanced qualifications such as an MSc, MBA, or equivalent experience in Digital Transformation or Business Leadership would be advantageous.
- Experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical, or consumer health environments, with an understanding of regulatory expectations, QC laboratory processes, and manufacturing operations.
- A strong understanding of laboratory operations, analytical workflows, lab informatics systems, supply chain, and manufacturing interfaces would support success in the role.
