SMB Account Executive

£40k-50k base + OTE

What is PayCaptain?

PayCaptain is the UK's first AI-powered Payroll SaaS platform built with financial wellbeing at its core, transforming transactional paydays into an experience benefiting the whole organisation.

Think: payroll + employee benefits + financial resilience tools = one beautifully simple app.

We're transforming payroll from a back-office chore into a strategic experience that boosts employee financial confidence, reduces admin for Payroll and HR teams, and helps companies genuinely support the people who work for them.

Why is PayCaptain an exciting product to sell?

Because we're not "just payroll". We're rethinking how people in the UK get paid and how pay can actively support their lives, not just passively land in their bank accounts.

What that means for you:

  • SMB deals typically sit at 1-4 month sales cycles, selling to HR, Payroll and Finance leaders, selling into companies under 500 employees.
  • Implementation is fast and consultative, with quick time-to-value driving strong retention.
  • A handful of strong SMB wins a month? You'll feel it 👀
  • And yes, we're fully remote, with flexible meeting spaces in Manchester and London whenever you want IRL collaboration.

But honestly? The best part isn't the product or the compensation - it's the people. We operate with trust, ownership, zero ego, zero politics, and genuine belief in the mission.

If that resonates, you'll fit right in.

Who are you?

You're an experienced SMB SaaS Account Executive, or SDR with a track record of winning and closing deals at pace in a scaling business environment. Being in the spotlight doesn't faze you, it excites you, as you live to drive value.

Ideally, you understand who are the key decision-making personas in the world of Payroll or HR-adjacent Tech, and know the events calendar and love getting out in the field and building connections.

You understand consultative selling and know how to lead a deal from first discovery call to signature at speed, working cross-functionally all the way.

You're motivated, articulate, naturally curious, have intent listening skills and great with people. And importantly: you care about selling a product that makes a difference.

You want to join a business where you can show your entrepreneurial spirit, have freedom, accountability, and a real voice as our next SMB AE.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
