About the role

The SMB Business Development Manager is responsible for driving new customer acquisition and sustainable revenue growth across the SMB market. The role focuses on identifying, qualifying and developing new business opportunities, building strong relationships with prospective customers, and positioning Node4's portfolio of managed services, cloud, security, connectivity and modern workplace solutions.

Working closely with Marketing, Presales, Sales Operations and Delivery teams, the Business Development Manager will create and progress opportunities through the sales cycle, ensuring a consistent flow of qualified pipeline and contributing to the achievement of both individual and team revenue targets.

Responsibilities

  • Generate new business opportunities through proactive outbound prospecting, networking, referrals and marketing-generated leads.
  • Identify and engage key decision-makers within target SMB organisations.
  • Build and maintain a healthy pipeline of qualified opportunities in line with business objectives.
  • Conduct discovery meetings to understand customer challenges, goals and technology requirements.
  • Collaborate with Presales and Solution Specialists to develop compelling customer proposals and presentations.
  • Accurately maintain CRM records, opportunity stages, forecasting and pipeline activity.
  • Consistently achieve or exceed agreed targets for pipeline generation, revenue, margin and customer acquisition.
  • Develop and execute territory and account penetration plans.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity and emerging customer requirements.
  • Build strong internal relationships to ensure effective handover and transition of opportunities into delivery and account management teams.
  • Attend customer meetings, events and networking opportunities to promote the Node4 brand and generate new opportunities.
  • Ensure all sales activities are conducted in line with company policies, processes and compliance requirements.

What will you bring?

  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong prospecting, objection handling and negotiation capabilities.
  • Ability to build credibility and trust with senior business stakeholders.
  • Commercially minded with strong business acumen.
  • Highly organised with excellent time and pipeline management skills.
  • Proficient in CRM systems and Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills.

Experience

  • Proven experience within a business development, new business sales or account acquisition role.
  • Experience selling IT, cloud, managed services, telecommunications or technology solutions.
  • Demonstrable track record of achieving and exceeding revenue and pipeline targets.
  • Experience working within a structured sales methodology and CRM environment.
  • Experience engaging with SMB customers and decision-makers.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience selling Microsoft, Azure, Security, Modern Workplace or Cloud solutions.
  • Understanding of managed service provider (MSP) environments.
  • Experience using sales engagement and prospecting platforms.
  • Knowledge of the UK SMB technology market.
  • Experience of tender, proposal and bid response processes.
  • Microsoft Fundamentals certifications or equivalent industry certifications.
