SME Commercial Insurance Account Handler / Broker
Location: Essex or London
Salary: Competitive
Company: APC London Market Ltd

Employment: Full-time
The Role
APC London Market is looking for an ambitious SME Commercial Insurance Account Handler / Broker to join our growing direct retail commercial team.
We are looking for someone who already has a good grounding in commercial insurance broking and is capable of taking ownership of clients and policies rather than simply carrying out administrative tasks.
The successful candidate will work across our existing commercial client base, handling renewals, new business enquiries, mid-term adjustments, and day-to-day client requirements. This would particularly suit someone with around 18 months to 3 years' commercial broking experience who is looking for a role where they can take on more responsibility and progress their career.
As the individual develops, there will also be opportunities to gain exposure to APC's wider London Market and wholesale broking operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of SME commercial clients.
- Handle renewals from start to finish.
- Proactively contact clients in advance of renewal and obtain updated risk information.
- Approach insurers and obtain renewal and new-business terms.
- Review and compare insurer quotations.
- Negotiate terms with insurers where appropriate.
- Present terms clearly and professionally to clients.
- Handle incoming new-business enquiries.
- Process mid-term adjustments, cancellations, and policy changes.
- Liaise directly with clients, insurers, and other market contacts.
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell additional covers where appropriate.
- Ensure all client and policy information is accurately maintained on Acturis.
- Maintain appropriate diary and follow-up procedures.
- Ensure client files meet APC's compliance and FCA requirements.
- Work closely with the wider broking and accounts teams.
- Provide a high level of service and build strong long-term client relationships.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
