Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Snowflake Data Modeler to lead and support data modelling and data management initiatives across the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing scalable, high-quality data models in Snowflake and other database environments, supporting data migration and modernization programs, and collaborating with business and technical teams to ensure data is structured, governed, and fit for purpose. The key focus of this role will be the transformation and migration of data from on-premises platforms to Snowflake in the cloud.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the design, development, and maintenance of conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Develop scalable and performant data models for Snowflake and other relational or analytical database platforms.
- Apply dimensional modelling techniques, including the design of:
- Star and snowflake schemas
- Fact and dimension tables
- Slowly changing dimensions
- Conformed dimensions
- Aggregated and analytical structures
- Translate business requirements into effective data structures and models.
- Support data migration initiatives where Snowflake is the target platform, including:
- On-premises-to-cloud transformation
- Source-to-target analysis
- Data mapping and modelling
- Data profiling and data quality assessment
- Data reconciliation and validation
- Migration impact analysis
- Review existing on-premises data models and recommend suitable cloud-based and Snowflake-native designs.
- Collaborate with data architects and engineers to ensure models align with enterprise architecture and implementation standards.
- Define and maintain data model documentation, source-to-target mappings, business definitions, and technical metadata.
- Support the development of data management and governance practices, including data ownership, lineage, quality, and standards.
- Work with ETL/ELT teams to ensure transformation logic is consistent with approved data models.
- Review and optimize SQL queries, model structures, and data access patterns for performance and maintainability.
- Participate in data design reviews, solution reviews, migration planning, and technical discussions.
- Identify data modelling risks, dependencies, and opportunities for standardization and reuse.
- Provide guidance and support to developers, analysts, and other project team members on data structures and modelling approaches.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience as a Data Modeler, Data Architect, or similar data-focused role.
- Strong hands-on experience with data modelling in Snowflake and at least one other database platform.
- Demonstrated experience with dimensional modelling and analytical data warehouse design.
- Experience designing logical and physical data models for enterprise data environments.
- Experience with data migration projects where Snowflake is the target platform.
- Practical experience supporting on-premises-to-cloud data transformation or modernization initiatives.
- Understanding of relational database concepts, data warehouse architecture, normalization, denormalization, and data integration patterns.
- Ability to interpret business requirements and convert them into clear, practical data models.
- Experience producing data model documentation and source-to-target mapping specifications.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience with data management, data governance, metadata management, or data quality practices.
- Experience with ETL/ELT processes and transformation mapping using cloud or on-premises tools.
- Familiarity with tools such as Informatica, Talend, dbt, Matillion, Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, SSIS, or equivalent platforms.
- Experience with Snowflake features and design considerations, including:
- Schemas, databases, and warehouses
- Clustering and micro-partitioning concepts
- Secure views and data sharing
- Data types and semi-structured data
- Streams, tasks, and dynamic tables
- Proficiency in SQL, including complex queries and data validation scripts.
- Experience with PL/SQL or another transactional query language.
- Knowledge of data lineage, business glossaries, reference data, master data, and data ownership frameworks.
- Experience with data profiling, reconciliation, quality rules, and migration testing.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies and tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
