Role Description
The Social Care Consultant is an on-site role based in the London Area, United Kingdom. The consultant will work directly with children’s social care providers to assess services, conduct mock inspections and quality audits, and support compliance with regulatory requirements. Day-to-day responsibilities include advising on service improvement plans, safeguarding practices, and governance, as well as mentoring leaders and teams to enhance standards of care. The role involves delivering training, facilitating workshops, and supporting crisis and improvement interventions to help services achieve and maintain high-quality outcomes for children and young people. The consultant will collaborate closely with client organizations, providing clear recommendations and hands-on support to implement lasting changes.

Qualifications

- Education / Credentials: QCF or NVQ Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or a recognized equivalent social care/management qualification)
- Experience: At least 1.5 to 2 years of experience working as a Registered Manager of a Residential Children’s Home, or a strong equivalent background in children's residential quality assurance (QA), inspection, or social care governance
- Knowledge: Knowledge of children’s social care regulations, safeguarding frameworks, and quality standards, particularly within the UK context.
- Proven experience: In social care consultancy, service improvement, or management within residential or community-based settings.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical, assessment, and report-writing abilities, with attention to detail and clear, actionable recommendations.
- Report Writing: Ability to produce high-level, analytical, Ofsted-ready written reports under tight deadlines (typically within 3 working days)
- Communication & Engagement: Capability to build rapport, interview vulnerable children and young people, listen to staff, and challenge poor practices constructively.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to challenge and support practice constructively.
- Knowledge Base: Deep understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards, safeguarding procedures, and Ofsted expectations.
- Logistics: Ability to work on-site across the London area, manage multiple projects, and adapt to changing service needs.
- Driving License: A full UK driving license and access to a reliable vehicle for traveling to unannounced site visits.
