This is a Full Time, Permanent position.

Proposed Interview dates: 9th & 10th November 2026

An opportunity has arisen for a candidate to join the Social Care Legal team in a permanent role as a Lawyer. The Social Care team provides legal advice and support to Children, Young People & Family Services.

The successful candidate will be a Solicitor, barrister or CILEX lawyer and will provide legal advice and represent the Council on a range of matters relating to children inclusive of, but not limited to, care proceedings, private law proceedings, adoption proceedings and pre-proceedings work. The successful candidate must be a team player with a pro-active approach to their work, have excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a busy environment and hold a large caseload. The successful candidate will be based at the Guildhall offices in Hull City Centre.

The Council provides a range of benefits to motivate, reward and recognise the valuable work of its officers. This includes flexible working policies to help balance home life with work commitments, generous annual leave and an excellent defined benefit pension scheme. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
