Social & Content Executive (Freelance)

Freelance with room to go into full-time!

Fern The Agency is a social-first marketing agency helping ambitious brands turn social media into a genuine marketing channel - combining strategy, creative content and ongoing social management. We're looking for a Social & Content Executive to take ownership of the day-to-day delivery and performance of our client accounts.

This isn't just a content scheduling role. You'll be responsible for taking the strategy we've agreed with a client and making sure it comes to life consistently - through great ideas, strong content, hands-on creation, proactive account management and continuous optimisation.

The role

You'll own a portfolio of client social accounts, managing everything from monthly content planning and client communication to content creation, filming, editing, approvals, publishing, community management and reporting.

You'll work closely with Fern's Founder, Social & Content Manager, editors, creators and specialist partners to keep accounts moving and make sure we're consistently delivering work we're proud of.

Client & Account Management

  • Be the day-to-day contact for your allocated clients.
  • Build strong relationships and understand each client's business, audience and wider marketing goals.
  • Keep clients updated on progress, timelines and upcoming activity.
  • Manage feedback and amendments efficiently.
  • Prepare for and lead regular client social catch-ups.
  • Flag risks, delays or issues early rather than waiting for them to become problems.
  • Keep every account organised, proactive and moving forward.

Content Strategy & Planning

  • Turn the wider client strategy into actionable monthly content plans.
  • Build monthly content calendars with a clear purpose behind every piece of content.
  • Develop creative concepts, recurring formats, campaigns and social-first ideas.
  • Identify trends, conversations and reactive opportunities relevant to our clients.
  • Think platform-first rather than simply repurposing the same content everywhere.
  • Make recommendations based on what is actually performing.

Content Creation, Filming & Editing

  • Write social-first scripts, hooks, captions and creative briefs.
  • Film social-first content on iPhone, both independently and as part of wider client content shoots.
  • Confidently direct clients, founders, team members and talent to capture natural, engaging content.
  • Understand the basics of lighting, framing, audio and composition to create high-quality mobile-first content.
  • Edit short-form video in CapCut, including cuts, pacing, captions, text overlays, trending audio and other platform-native editing techniques.
  • Turn raw footage into engaging TikToks, Reels and other short-form social content.
  • Adapt edits, hooks and formats based on the platform and audience rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
  • Brief and collaborate with our wider editors, designers and creators when additional production support is required.
  • Review all content internally before it reaches the client.
  • Maintain a consistently high creative and brand standard across client work.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Publishing & Community

  • Manage scheduling and publishing across client channels.
  • Ensure content is approved and ready ahead of publishing deadlines.
  • Monitor comments, DMs and conversations where community management is included.
  • Proactively engage with relevant accounts and communities.
  • Identify customer questions, feedback and conversations that could become future content.

Reporting & Optimisation

  • Monitor account performance throughout the month - not just when the report is due.
  • Produce clear monthly performance reports with meaningful insights.
  • Understand what's driving reach, engagement, followers, traffic and other relevant KPIs.
  • Identify patterns across high and low-performing content.
  • Turn performance data into clear actions for the following month.
  • Recommend when content should be repeated, evolved, tested differently or stopped.

What ownership looks like at Fern

We don't expect you to have every answer, and you'll have support from the wider team and Founder on strategy and bigger client decisions. We do expect you to own your accounts and find solutions.

That means knowing what's happening without needing to be chased, staying ahead of deadlines, spotting opportunities, asking questions when something doesn't make sense and coming to the team with solutions rather than simply highlighting problems.

A successful Social & Content Executive at Fern should be able to look at an account and say:

“This is what's working, this is what's not, this is what we've learned and this is what I think we should do next.”

What we're looking for

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience managing social media accounts for brands or clients.
  • Strong knowledge of Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn.
  • Confidence filming high-quality social content on an iPhone.
  • Experience editing short-form video using CapCut.
  • A strong understanding of hooks, pacing, trends and what makes someone stop scrolling.
  • Excellent copywriting and communication skills.
  • A good understanding of what makes genuinely social-first content.
  • Experience building content calendars and managing approval processes.
  • Confidence communicating directly with clients.
  • An understanding of social analytics and how to turn data into recommendations.
  • Strong organisation and attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage multiple clients, priorities and deadlines at once.
  • A proactive mindset - you'll spot what needs doing rather than waiting to be given a task.
  • A genuine interest in social media, content, marketing and how platforms are evolving.
  • Confidence getting stuck in - whether that's filming at a client shoot, jumping on a trend, making a quick edit or responding to an opportunity in real time.

You'll thrive if:

  • You're organised but creative.
  • You care about the details but can also understand the bigger marketing picture.
  • You're comfortable taking responsibility for your work and being hands-on with content.
  • You understand that great social content doesn't always need a huge production - sometimes an iPhone, a strong idea and a quick CapCut edit is exactly what a brand needs.

You don't want to spend your career simply filling content calendars - you want to understand why we're creating something, whether it worked and what we should do next.

Most importantly, you care about doing brilliant work for clients while being part of a small, ambitious agency where your ideas and contributions matter.

OTHER:

  • Must be able to drive to shoot locations across the UK.
  • Please send any relevant portfolios and cover letters to analytics@ferntheagency.co.uk.
