Role Description

The Social Media Assistant volunteer role is a remote position supporting AYL’s digital presence across social platforms. Day-to-day tasks include:

  • Planning, drafting, and publishing social media posts that highlight AYL’s articles, interviews, and community features.
  • Assisting with content calendars, gathering assets (images, clips, quotes), and adapting editorial content into engaging formats for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, X, and others.
  • Helping monitor comments and messages, supporting audience engagement, and flagging relevant trends, artists, and stories that align with AYL’s voice.
  • Collaborating with editors and contributors to refine copy, maintain brand tone, and experiment with new content ideas.

Qualifications

  • Strong Communication and Writing skills to craft clear, engaging, and culturally aware social content.
  • Social Media and Social Media Content Creation skills to develop platform-appropriate posts, captions, and visual concepts.
  • Social Media Marketing skills to help grow reach, improve engagement, and support campaign or feature launches.
  • Familiarity with youth culture, music, fashion, and digital trends, with an interest in amplifying underrepresented voices.
  • Comfortable working remotely, managing their time, collaborating via digital tools, and receiving and implementing editorial feedback.
  • Previous experience in social media, content creation, or community-building (professional, educational, or self-initiated) is beneficial but not required.
