About The Role

As a Social Media & Content Apprentice, you will support the creation, management, and delivery of engaging digital content across a range of social media platforms while working closely with the wider Brand and Marketing teams. You'll play an active role in promoting Matalan’s brand, supporting marketing campaigns, and helping to create compelling content that engages external audiences. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and publish content across our social media accounts
  • Spot format and product trends, empowering the team to act on emerging opportunities
  • Participate in social listening activity to understand what customers and the wider community are saying about us and the market landscape.
  • Manage community engagement by replying to and interacting with customers across social channels
  • Work with the team to create weekly, monthly, and annual reports that measure social media performance and apply insights and learnings
  • Create content, design marketing assets using Canva, and produce and edit videos
  • Help the team prepare for and attend exciting local and national events.
  • Work alongside and learn from our experienced marketing team on daily activities and major projects
  • Complete the Level 3 Multi-Channel Marketer apprenticeship as part of the role.
  • Participate in internal masterclasses, feedback sessions, and reviews as part of the Talent Development offer

About You

  • A genuine interest in social media, digital marketing, content creation, and brand communications, with an enthusiasm for developing a career in marketing.
  • Good understanding of major social media platforms and current digital trends, with an awareness of emerging content formats and audience engagement techniques.
  • Interest in branding, events, communications, and wider marketing activities; involvement in school, college, volunteering, or extracurricular projects related to content creation, marketing, or communications would be advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail and the confidence to contribute creative ideas and suggestions.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office applications and enthusiastic about learning new digital tools, including Canva, video editing software, and social media management platforms.
  • Positive, proactive, and enthusiastic, with a strong willingness to learn from feedback, take ownership of personal development, and continuously build new skills.
  • Reliable, professional, and adaptable, with excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to build effective working relationships, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or willingness to achieve these as part of the apprenticeship if required).
  • Eligibility to undertake a Level 3 Multi-Channel Marketer Apprenticeship.
