Role Details
- Role: Social Media Intern
- Contract Type: Volunteer Internship
- Hours: Approximately 15 hours per week (3 days × 5 hours)
- Duration: 10 weeks
- Start Date: To be agreed with the successful candidate
- Location: Greater London
- Working Arrangement: Hybrid, combining remote work with occasional in-person activities, classes, workshops and events (Travel fees will be paid).
The Social Media Intern will contribute 15 hours per week across three days. The role is designed to work alongside other commitments while providing meaningful, practical experience in social media, content creation and digital communications.
Role Overview
1Syllable is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Social Media Intern to support our online presence across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Facebook. This volunteer role is ideal for someone who is passionate about social media, storytelling, creative digital communication and community-focused work, and who wants to gain practical experience while contributing to a purpose-driven organisation.
The Social Media Intern will support the development, creation, scheduling and publishing of engaging content that reflects 1Syllable’s values and highlights our identity-centred dance practice, programmes, classes, workshops and wider community activities. The role will provide hands-on experience across social media content creation, digital marketing, campaign support, audience engagement and social media analytics.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media & Content Creation
- Develop, create, edit and manage engaging social media content across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Facebook.
- Support social media ideation, campaign planning and creative content development.
- Write engaging captions, scripts and platform-specific copy aligned with 1Syllable’s tone, values and identity.
- Adapt content appropriately for different social media platforms and audiences.
- Assist in creating short-form video concepts, Reels, Stories, TikToks, Shorts and other visual content.
- Capture and edit simple photo and video content from relevant classes, workshops, events and community activities where appropriate.
- Coordinate with photographers and videographers to support content capture.
- Contribute fresh creative ideas to strengthen 1Syllable’s storytelling, online presence and digital identity.

Content Planning & Campaign Support
- Assist in developing basic content calendars and maintaining a consistent posting schedule.
- Schedule and organise social media content across relevant platforms.
- Support the promotion of classes, workshops, programmes, events and campaigns.
- Assist with social media and digital marketing campaigns designed to increase awareness, engagement and participation.
- Research relevant social media trends, formats and creative approaches and suggest opportunities for 1Syllable.
Audience Engagement & Community
- Monitor comments, messages and interactions across social media platforms.
- Respond to comments and messages in a timely, respectful and inclusive manner.
- Help create content that reflects and celebrates the identities, experiences and contributions of the 1Syllable community.
- Support positive online community engagement and contribute to an inclusive digital environment.
Analytics & Reporting
- Monitor social media performance and track key metrics including engagement, reach, views and audience growth.
- Assist with basic reporting and reviewing the performance of published content.
- Identify patterns, trends and opportunities from social media insights.
- Suggest improvements to future content and campaigns based on performance data and audience response.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is creative, organised, curious and enthusiastic about learning. You will ideally have:
- A strong interest in social media, digital marketing, content creation or communications.
- Familiarity with TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Facebook.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to write engaging captions and adapt messaging for different audiences and platforms.
- An eye for engaging visual and video content.
- An interest in social media trends and digital storytelling.
- Basic understanding of social media analytics and performance metrics.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- The ability to work independently while also collaborating positively with the wider team.
- An interest in contemporary dance, culture, the arts or community-focused initiatives.
- A commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and respectful communication.
- Previous experience in social media, content creation, marketing or community projects is beneficial but not essential. Enthusiasm, creativity and a willingness to learn are highly valued.

Potential Progression
This is a voluntary, unpaid internship designed to provide meaningful professional experience and an opportunity to demonstrate your skills. Subject to performance, organisational needs and the availability of suitable opportunities, there may be the possibility of progressing into a paid role with 1Syllable following the internship. A paid position is not guaranteed and would be discussed separately based on the organisation’s needs, available roles and the intern’s contribution and performance.
