Ready to lead social at the UK’s Proper Builder’s Merchant?
We're looking for a creative, hands-on, trend-spotting Social Media Lead to take the reins of MKM’s social presence, and play a huge role in supporting, educating and empowering our branches to shine on social too.
If you love big ideas, fast experiments, meeting new people, creating engaging content and helping others grow their confidence with social media, this is the role for you.

What you’ll be doing
- Leading the strategy, content plan and execution for MKM’s central social channels: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and X.
- Supporting and educating branches on how to run their channels and provide ideas, templates and practical support, sometimes posting on their behalf.
- Creating engaging, scroll-stopping video-first content, using tools like CapCut or Edits.
- Travelling to MKM branches nationwide to capture real stories, build relationships and film content on the ground.
- Getting under the skin of our core trade audience - understanding what makes them tick, what they engage with, and how to speak their language in a way that feels relatable, real and entertaining.
- Jumping on trends and bringing MKM’s brand personality to life in fun, creative and disruptive ways.
- Developing our trade content creator programme and work with content creators and influencers to amplify our brand presence in ways that feel authentic, human and genuinely useful to the trades.
- Continuously analysing performance and adapting based on what’s working, and what’s not.
- Creating paid-social advertising content, so experience of paid platforms is a bonus.
- Mentoring and managing a Social Media Apprentice.
- Working closely with our in-house videographer/photographer, Digital Marketing Manager and full marketing team to bring ideas to life.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
