Social Media Manager
£50,000-£55,000 + 20% bonus | West London | 5 days in the office
Big ideas change brands. Sometimes, they change the world.
A fast-growing D2C FMCG brand is looking for a Social Media Manager who doesn't think small. This is a role for someone who sees a brief and immediately starts thinking: "How big can we make this?" Not "What are the competitors doing?" Not "What worked last year?" And definitely not "Let's play it safe." The brand has already demonstrated what big thinking can do. Organic social has generated more than 130 million views, helping build a significant global audience and turning the brand into a serious player in its category. Now they want to go further. Much further. The goal is to create Red Bull-style marketing: ideas so big, unexpected and culturally relevant that people can't help but talk about them. Think sending a product into space. A product being put through its paces on a rally car. An extreme clean during a bungee jump. Leaving a product in Death Valley and documenting what happens as the elements take their toll. These aren't conventional social campaigns. They're stories. They're ideas designed to earn attention rather than buy it. And that's the mindset this role needs.
The opportunity
The previous Social Media Manager was in the business for four years and helped establish a strong organic social engine. Since they left, the business has made two further hires that haven't worked out. The issue wasn't simply execution. The ideas weren't big enough. They were too safe. Too predictable. Too focused on what had already been done. The business doesn't want to make that mistake again. They're looking for someone who can fundamentally change the way the brand thinks about social. Someone who can take a product and turn it into a cultural moment. Someone who can sit in a creative meeting and make everyone else think: "That's completely ridiculous. Let's do it." Because the belief here is simple: Safe ideas get ignored. Big ideas get remembered. You'll work closely with the Creative Director, initially developing ideas together before taking increasing ownership of the creative strategy and ideation process. You'll also lead a team of three content creators, giving them the direction and scale of thinking required to turn those ideas into exceptional social content. This is ultimately a role about creating attention at scale.
What you'll be doing
- Own the organic social strategy across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and emerging platforms.
- Develop big, disruptive ideas that generate awareness, conversation and organic reach.
- Lead and develop a team of three content creators.
- Work closely with the Creative Director to develop bold concepts and turn them into campaigns.
- Take increasing ownership of the brand's creative ideation and social direction.
- Challenge conventional thinking and push the team beyond the obvious answer.
- Turn products, launches and cultural moments into stories people genuinely want to share.
- Identify opportunities for the brand to create or own cultural conversations.
- Oversee the planning, production and delivery of social-first content.
- Use performance data and audience insight to understand what resonates - without allowing the data to kill the creativity.
- Build and grow the brand's social community.
- Develop relationships with influencers, creators and major talent.
- Support large-scale campaigns, activations and collaborations.
- Work with internal and external creative teams to bring bold ideas to life.
- Attend studio shoot days and work alongside the Creative Director to oversee social output.
- Collaborate with marketing, creative, e-commerce and brand teams to ensure social is driving wider commercial objectives.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What they're looking for
Ideas come first. They're looking for someone who has a genuine instinct for creative thinking and can demonstrate that they've created social content that made people stop, watch, share and talk. You'll bring:
- A track record of developing and executing successful organic social strategies.
- Evidence of growing social channels through strong creative thinking and content.
- Experience leading content creators, freelancers or creative teams.
- A deep understanding of Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and the wider social landscape.
- A proven ability to turn an idea into a campaign that people want to watch and share.
- Strong creative instincts and an understanding of digital culture.
- Experience working with influencers, creators or talent.
- The ability to understand performance data without becoming constrained by it.
- The confidence to challenge a brief and ask whether the idea could be 10x bigger.
- The ability to take an idea from a scribble on a whiteboard to something people actually see, share and remember.
- Experience across fashion, streetwear, music, sport, entertainment, FMCG or other culturally relevant consumer brands would be particularly valuable.
- Perhaps you've worked in a brand where creativity was everything.
- Perhaps you've worked in music, where attention is currency.
- Perhaps you've worked in sport, where moments become memories.
- Perhaps you've worked in FMCG and know how difficult it is to make an everyday product culturally interesting.
- The background matters less than your creative instinct.
What this role is NOT
- This isn't a role for someone who wants to manage a content calendar.
- It isn't a role for someone whose idea of innovation is using the latest trending audio.
- And it isn't a role for someone who sees a successful competitor campaign and thinks: "We should do something like that."
- The question here is: "Why can't we do something that nobody has thought of yet?"
- The business wants someone who will challenge the Creative Director.
- Someone who will challenge the brief.
- Someone who will challenge themselves.
- Someone who believes that one genuinely brilliant idea can be worth more than 100 pieces of average content.

Interview process
Stage 1: Video interview with the Creative Director.
Stage 2: A creative task - you'll be asked to develop three organic social campaign ideas for the brand. The task should take approximately 1-1.25 hours. And this is where you should think big. Don't give them three safe social posts. Give them three ideas that make the Creative Director think: "We need to make this happen." If you're the kind of person who thinks the best ideas haven't been done yet, this could be the role for you.
