About the Role
Can you help Rainforest Saver reach more people and grow our impact? We’re looking for a creative social media volunteer to share inspiring stories from our rainforest and sustainable farming projects in Cameroon and Ecuador and help to build our online community.
What difference will you make?
This is an opportunity to use your communications skills for something tangible helping a small environmental charity reach more people, raise more support and ultimately protect more rainforest and improve more lives.
A strong social media presence will help us:
- Reach new audiences who may never otherwise hear about Rainforest Saver and our work.
- Build a community of supporters who understand what we do and feel connected to our projects.
- Show our impact by sharing real stories, images and updates from farmers and project teams in Cameroon and Ecuador.
- Increase donations and fundraising opportunities by reaching people who want to support environmental and community projects.
- Strengthen our credibility and visibility when approaching potential funders, partners and organisations.
- Raise awareness of Inga Alley Cropping and the potential of sustainable agroforestry to provide an alternative to slash-and-burn farming and help protect tropical forests.
- Celebrate the people behind our work, particularly the farmers and local project teams who are making change happen on the ground.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about social media and wants to use their skills to support a worthwhile environmental cause.
Do you have:
- Good knowledge of social media – you understand what makes content engaging and how to build an audience. Experience managing Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or other platforms would be valuable.
- Creativity – you enjoy coming up with ideas for posts, campaigns, stories and different ways of presenting information.
- Good communication skills – you can turn sometimes complex information about rainforest protection, farming and climate issues into content that is clear, interesting and accessible.
- Initiative – we would like someone who can bring their own ideas, spot opportunities and take ownership of the role rather than waiting to be told what to do.
- Reliability and organisation – keeping content planned, consistent, regular and scheduled will be important.
- An interest in environmental issues – you don't need to be an environmental expert, but you should be genuinely interested in rainforest protection, climate change, sustainable agriculture or related issues.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience
Previous experience managing social media for an organisation, charity, business or community group would be an advantage. Experience creating graphics, short videos, reels or other visual content would also be useful.
However, we are more interested in what you can do than in formal qualifications. You may have gained your social media experience professionally, through volunteering, running a community group, supporting a small business, or through your own successful social media projects.
We would particularly welcome someone who understands how to create content that feels authentic rather than overly corporate and who can help us develop a distinctive voice for Rainforest Saver.
You don't need to know anything about Inga Alley Cropping or our projects in advance. We can provide the information and stories; we need someone who can help us communicate them effectively.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is passionate, creative, proactive and excited about helping a small environmental charity reach more people.

Rainforest Saver is a small environmental charity working with farming communities in Cameroon and Ecuador to protect rainforests and promote sustainable agroforestry. We have lots of stories, photos, videos, project updates and impact to share, but need someone with the skills and enthusiasm to turn this material into engaging social media content.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement a simple, engaging social media strategy across our key channels.
- Create and schedule regular posts using stories, photos, videos and updates from our projects in Cameroon and Ecuador.
- Turn project information into engaging content that supporters can understand and share.
- Help grow our followers, engagement and reach.
- Suggest creative ideas for fundraising campaigns and relevant environmental awareness days.
- Help communicate the environmental and social impact of our work in a way that inspires people to get involved or donate.
- Monitor basic analytics and use them to improve our content.
- Keep our social media channels active, consistent and up to date.
There is considerable scope for the successful volunteer to shape this role. We are not looking for someone simply to follow a pre-existing social media plan — we would like you to bring your own ideas, creativity and knowledge of what works online.
You will work closely with the trustees and other volunteers. Our project teams in Cameroon and Ecuador can provide stories, photographs, updates and information from the field, giving you plenty of real material to work with.
As a small charity, your contribution will be highly visible. You will have the opportunity to build or strengthen your portfolio, develop your skills and see how your work directly contributes to raising awareness and supporting rainforest protection and rural communities.
