As a member of the Church's multi-award-winning Digital Team, you will develop innovative and strategic social media content and campaigns that invite people to connect with their local church, encourage people to deepen their faith and share inspiring local and national stories of how the Church works for good in communities across England.
You will support the wider Communications department and teams across the National Church Institutions with social media usage across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Bluesky, LinkedIn and YouTube, with a real passion for building engagement across all social media platforms and reaching new audiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy and campaigns
- Develop a wide range of content, as well as platform strategy to better reach, and grow our different social media audiences.
- Research development of platforms and trends to accompany our strategy.
- Work with colleagues at the offices of the Archbishops on content and communicate Church of England content plans for key campaigns and ordinary time, identifying opportunities for collaboration.
- Generate creative ideas for key campaigns and year-round content.
Content creation and management
- Planning, curating, and scheduling daily content for our social media channels, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Bluesky and TikTok, ensuring a broad, high-quality mix of innovative content that meets our goals and is tailored to different audiences.
- Liaising with content producers on platform-specific, social-first content.
- Liaising with influencers to provide social media content and develop partnerships that will grow awareness of the Church of England among new audiences.
- Writing clear, simple and concise copy for the Church of England social media channels.
- Working on social media campaigns to support goals of teams across the Church of England, building positive relationships with other teams and advising colleagues on best practice in creating engaging content.
- Providing digital support and creating content at online and onsite events, particularly training courses and conferences, including General Synod.
Social media monitoring and community management
- Working with the Social Media Manager, coordinating and implementing social media community management on the Church’s social platforms, creating engagement and growing our following.
- Monitoring our social media channels during working hours to ensure comments, complaints and queries are dealt with appropriately and in good time, identifying issues that need response or escalation.
- Coordinating the out of hours rota for social media channels.

Insights and reporting
- Identifying social media opportunities (such as campaigns, social trends, awareness days) through horizon scanning.
- Together with the Social Media Manager, produce regular social media analytics and insights, including identifying trends arising from social media feedback, sharing results with key stakeholders and using findings to inform future activity.
- Liaise with other members of the Communications team to monitor online activity on key topics.
Other
- Contribute to team project planning.
- Occasionally take part in webinars and in-person training to equip church leaders and volunteers, as well as NCIs and diocesan staff in use of social media.
- Carrying out any other reasonable duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
Skills/Aptitudes:
- Excellent writing, copy-editing and proofreading skills – ability to write clearly without mistakes.
- Excellent digital skills, including industry standard tools, particularly digital channel management software such as content management systems (CMSs), social networks, evaluation and analytics tools, such as Sprout Social.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, building consensus and positive relationships within and across teams.
- Highly organised, and able to maintain this in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge/Experience:
- Experience of working as a social media officer or equivalent role for a large national organisation.
- Experience running digital and social campaigns for large organisations.
- Experience of social media community management.
- Track record of taking projects, ideas and initiatives from concept through to delivery.
- Awareness of social media trends and clear understanding of the role of social media within digital marketing and communications.
- Understanding of the values and beliefs of the Church of England and of Christianity in general
- Experience in growing high-profile social media channels and increasing reach and engagement.
Personal attributes:
- Comfortable and confident promoting the Church of England and faith in Jesus Christ in the digital public square.
- A desire to bring more people to faith in Jesus Christ and deepen people’s faith.
- A team player with a can-do attitude, willing to pull together with colleagues at busy times and use professional digital experience to further the work of the Church

Circumstances:
- Able to occasionally travel within England to produce content from different dioceses, churches and other Church of England organisations. You may also be required to assist with social media training of colleagues and other stakeholders.
