Job Description

Hours: 18 hours per week. School holidays only including weekends

Area: Newcastle Upon Tyne

Rate: £15.00 per hour

We are currently recruiting for an experienced personal assistant for a loving, introverted 11-year-old young boy with Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, PICA and Global developmental delay. AJ always requires full supervision as he will eat non-food items and has no awareness of danger. He currently resides with his mum and dad and attends a specialist provision that he is thriving in. This role would suit someone that has experience working with children with autism and is a necessary requirement.

AJ enjoys a variety of sensory stimulating activities including trampolining, swimming and trips to the local activity centres, he would like to visit and explore new venues to widen his experiences within the community. One activity which he is currently enjoying is trips to the cinema with his camera to photograph the large posters and dates on them so expect plenty of trips to Cineworld.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Routine is very important to AJ and timekeeping is essential as he will monitor time and fixates on arrival and depart times using his clock.

AJ can on rare occasions become dysregulated and may lash out once he is comfortable with you, so coping strategies like calm voice and reassurance to manage these must be demonstrated and implemented to always ensure his safety. AJ becomes particularly anxious around other children, and he views them as a threat, so you must be able to minimise exposure to larger groups of children whilst ensuring he still has ability to engage in his choice of activities

AJ enjoys home life and spending time on his own where he can control Sky and screen time, usually watching programmes he has recorded and has on repeat.

AJ is independent in eating and drinking but monitoring his food intake is required and there will be some personal care in the role in the form of toileting prompts and assistance with after toilet hygiene.
