This is a full-time 12-month fixed-term contract or internal staff secondment with a 9-day fortnight working pattern and regular weekend working.
About the role
- Create written and visual content for the Guardian’s social platforms (primarily Instagram and TikTok) with the aim of engaging and informing a global audience.
- Pitch ideas for social videos and other formats, in line with audience needs and editorial priorities
- Script and produce original social videos and other formats as required by the social platforms editor
- Contribute towards the planning, production, publishing and archiving of content across social channels.
- Maintain high standards of video verification, fact-checking and contextual accuracy across all published content to ensure it meets the Guardian’s editorial guidelines
- Ensure social posts adhere to the Guardian’s design and work closely with motion graphics designers as well as independently within templates
- Work closely with other teams to share resources and execute collaborative multimedia projects
- Monitor, analyse and measure social engagement as required, across all channels, and optimise content (title, images, graphics, and other elements) in line with performance
- Keep up to date with the latest social media developments, especially best practice off-platform

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
