About the Role
Right across infrastructure, there’s a requirement to not only maintain, but also renew and reimagine. Whatever stage you’re at in your career, with us you’ll have an opportunity to grow and develop. Delivering essential infrastructure services for life, while being safety first, and client and customer centric in a friendly, fun and respectful environment where you are encouraged to thrive.
Where will you be working?
At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our Transmission & Renewables team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.
What will you be doing?
We're seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Social Value & Communications Lead to join us at M Group on a 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract initially. This is a hybrid role with 3 days in our office in Newport or on site and 2 days at home - weeks may vary dependent on commitments this would be the usual expectation of the role.
You'll play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of our Energy Infrastructure sector contracts. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about making a positive impact within local communities whilst also driving engagement and communication across our business unit.
You'll lead the development, delivery and monitoring of the contract's Social Value Plan, working closely with operational teams, leadership, customers, supply chain partners and community stakeholders to maximise social value outcomes. You'll also be responsible for creating and delivering an engaging communications strategy that keeps colleagues informed, connected and motivated throughout the contract lifecycle.
What success looks like in this role is delivering and exceeding social value commitments, increasing colleague awareness and participation in social value initiatives, building strong partnerships with local communities and stakeholders, ensuring engaging and consistent internal communications across the contract, and enhancing employee engagement through greater visibility of leadership communications.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
