The Growth Company’s GM Business Growth Hub Opportunity

The Growth Company’s (GC) GM Business Growth Hub (GMBGH) team has a new opportunity for a Business Advisor – Social Value Specialist to join the Social Impact and Procurement Team. Working with business owners and senior leaders across Greater Manchester, you will provide tailored advice and practical guidance to help organisations develop and embed effective social value strategies. Through one-to-one support, events, cohort programmes and partnership engagement, you will promote best practice and help organisations achieve measurable social impact.

BGH supports businesses across Greater Manchester with expert advice on funding, innovation, people, sales and sustainability. We provide tailored support to meet the needs of each business at every stage of its growth journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with private, public and VCFSE sector organisations to develop and evolve their social impact practices and programmes.
  • Represent GM Business Growth Hub and engage with external stakeholders and relevant forums relating to social value across Greater Manchester.
  • Build effective connections with clients, partners and communities to enhance good employment practices, widen accessibility, and share learning and best practice.
  • Engage with local authorities to understand place-based challenges and identify local resources.
  • Provide thought leadership and raise awareness of social value among a range of audiences.
  • Deliver advisory support to help clients evaluate and measure the impact of their initiatives and share key learning.
  • Design and deliver business support programmes and high-impact events to increase understanding of social value and inclusive growth.
  • Examine clients’ business practices to identify opportunities to embed social value as a business priority.

About You

  • Significant experience in social value generation, monitoring and reporting, strategy development, and the formulation of policies and procedures.
  • A strong track record of working within complex organisations and driving measurable change.
  • Clear understanding of the social value agenda, particularly within Greater Manchester, and the societal and economic challenges facing local businesses.
  • Wide-ranging knowledge of societal issues affecting sectors such as further education, business support and employment support.
  • Passionate about people, with a genuine belief in the value of good business and employment practices.
  • Customer-focused approach to working with businesses, encouraging engagement and commitment to economic development.

  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to influence senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to facilitate learning through focus groups, coaching and training.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to develop metrics and provide insight from data.
  • Experience of using social value frameworks and platforms to measure and report impact.
  • Confident and influential communication and presentation skills across multiple channels, including social media and large audiences.
  • Well-developed planning, organisational, project management and IT skills, including CRM systems, management information systems and Microsoft 365 applications.
