Torbay Council is recruiting Social Workers to join our Adult Social Care service at an exciting and transformational time. Opportunities currently exist across a range of teams including Transitions, Complex Care, and Older Person's Mental Health.
This is an excellent opportunity for Social Workers who are looking to develop their skills, gain experience across a range of specialisms, and build a rewarding long-term career in Adult Social Care.

About the Role
As a Social Worker, you will work alongside adults with a range of care and support needs, helping them to maintain their independence, wellbeing, and connections within their communities.
You will:
- Undertake strengths-based assessments and reviews.
- Work collaboratively with individuals, families, carers, and partner agencies.
- Develop person-centred care and support plans.
- Promote independence and positive outcomes.
- Contribute to safeguarding activity where required.
- Work as part of multidisciplinary teams to coordinate support and reduce risk.

Adult Social Care in Torbay is entering an important and positive period of change.
As part of the planned conclusion of the Section 75 partnership agreement, services currently delivered by South Devon and Torbay NHS Foundation Trust will transfer back to Torbay Council in April next year. As we move towards this transition, all new and existing social care roles will be employed by Torbay Council, benefiting from council terms and conditions, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, and a range of employee benefits.

This post will be carrying out Regulated Activity. As such the post will require an Enhanced Criminal Record Check plus an additional Barred List Check. The check will reveal any spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions (which have not been filtered), any local Police information and a check of either the Adult, Child or Adult and Child Barred Lists.

Skills
Essential:
- Ability to apply range of Adult Social Care legislation, proportionality and least restrictive practice in complex situations.
- Ability to exercise professional judgement within statutory frameworks and clearly evidence decision making rationale.
- Ability to provide professional challenge and engage in reflective supervision.
- Ability to take a lead role in jointly-worked complex cases.
- Ability to manage time effectively in assessing, planning, monitoring and reviewing service user’s needs and services.
- As this post meets the requirements of the Immigration Act 2016 (part 7), the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
Knowledge
Essential:
- Knowledge of Making Safeguarding Personal and strengths based social work practice.
- Knowledge/skills of Care Act, and Mental Capacity Act.
- Knowledge of professional standards and regulatory requirements relevant to Social Work England.
- Knowledge of Managing Expectations.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Relevant professional Social Work qualification – Degree/Diploma Work, Certificate of Qualification in Social Work, Certificate in Social Services.
- Registered with professional body Social Work England.
- Commitment to continued professional development.
