We are looking for a dedicated and motivated Social Worker to join our Doncaster Fostering Service on a 12-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover.
The role is home-based, with regular travel required across the Doncaster area to support foster carers, attend meetings, and undertake visits. You will become part of a supportive and experienced fostering team with a strong commitment to delivering the best outcomes for children and young people.
Five Rivers works from a Trauma-Informed (ATIC) model, integrating our fostering, residential, clinical, and education services to achieve the best possible outcomes for young people. Our teams are supported by psychologists, therapeutic practitioners, foster support workers, and business support coordinators, enabling social workers to focus on delivering high-quality support and interventions.
About The Role
As a Social Worker within our fostering service, you will provide high-quality support and supervision to foster carers, ensuring children and young people receive safe, stable, and nurturing care.
You will work collaboratively with foster families, local authorities, and internal professionals to promote positive outcomes for children. The role offers manageable caseloads and the opportunity to work within a progressive trauma-informed practice framework.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
