Social Worker Emotional Health & Well-being (Children Looked After & Care Leavers)
Become a Children’s Social Worker for Bury and help with our ‘Let’s Do it for Children’ vision.
About The Role
We know that children looked after and care leavers often face unique challenges around emotional health and well-being. To strengthen the support we provide, Bury Council has invested in creating two specialist Social Worker roles dedicated to this area. These roles are part of our commitment to delivering trauma-informed, relationship-based practice that helps young people build resilience and thrive.
You will be part of an innovative approach where Social Workers work closely with a psychologist-led team, ensuring that emotional health is at the heart of care planning. This means you’ll have access to expert guidance, reflective practice, and specialist training to enhance your skills and confidence in supporting children and young people.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
