Families First: working alongside families to create lasting change.
At Gateshead Council, we are ambitious for our children, young people and families. As part of our Families First transformation, we are bringing together social work, family help and key partner agencies within one integrated front door to ensure children receive the right support, at the right time, from the right service.
Our Families First Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (FF MASH) sits at the centre of this approach. Bringing together colleagues from Social Care, Family Help, Police, Health, Education, Probation and Domestic Abuse services, the FF MASH provides a coordinated response to concerns about children and families. By sharing information, expertise and professional insight, we make timely, informed decisions that keep children safe, identify family strengths and ensure support is delivered as early as possible.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a service that is helping shape the future of safeguarding and early intervention in Gateshead.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
